My monthly message to the Best Detailers, Suppliers, Manufacturers, and Distributors in the world.

WOW, so this it, huh?  My last official letter as the IDA President.  I will keep this one short and sweet. 

I don’t think that words can express my gratitude to each and every one of you – our members, our Board of Directors, the IDA staff, and the industry as a whole – for the amazing year and wonderful experiences I have had as the 2019 IDA President.

I hope you all feel as excited as I do about all the accomplishments we have had this year!  The old saying “it takes a village” is going through my head right now.  And boy, it sure does!  The IDA is a “members-helping-members” organization – a family, if you will.  It is up to all of us to keep that spirit alive!

Even though we have connected a lot of the dots this year, there are still a lot more to connect and accomplish.  As we roll into 2020, the future looks so bright.  We have a great leadership team with great ideas ready to pick the ball up and run with it.  I am super excited for them and look forward to the many more great advancements to come from the whole IDA community.

Even though my time is drawing to an end as the president, I look forward to continuing to serve you and the industry as a whole on this amazing journey we are all on together.

I hope you have a happy and safe holiday season and that you get some time with friends and family.  After all, that is why we all really do this.  Best of luck and I will see you in 2020!

Each month we feature a Member Spotlight. This month we're talking with Anckur Sama, CD-SV, Founder & CEO of AutoFresh.in.

International Detailing Association (IDA): How did you get into the detailing industry?
Anckur Sama (AS): For last 26 years I have been in the business of Automobiles. In 2006 I was looking to diversify my Love and Passion towards keeping cars new and shiny, which brought me into this industry. For the last 13 years I have been growing a detailing business in India.

IDA: Please tell us more about your business.
AS: It all started with one store in my hometown 13 years ago. Detailing was a new concept then, this type of business and store did not exist in India at that time. Then we began expanding the concept on a franchisee route and today we have 105 franchises under our brand 'CARZSPA'. We also expanded the detailing business with our other division called 'AutoFresh' by an eCommerce route and distribution of equipment, tools and products to different detail shops. We are a importer and distributor to many renowned brands, such as, Rupes, Gtechniq, Scholl, DetailMax, SolutionFinish and more.(Read more)

John Bell: 30 Years

IDA: Were you a detailer prior to becoming a supplier? 
JB: Yes

IDA: What made you switch to becoming a supplier? 
JB: Family business

IDA: What type of training does your organization/business offer (if any)? 
JB: Detail Process, Safety and Product Training. Also, IDA Certification training.

IDA: What makes your company unique compared to other suppliers? 
JB: 84 years in business. Product consistency. Manufacture majority of product line rather than private label.

IDA: Is there any advice you would give to detailers that may be looking into transitioning to product sales, distribution, or manufacturing? 
JB: Do your due diligence on all aspects of product sales, distribution, or manufacturing

IDA: Will your company be attending Mobile Tech Expo?

IDA: What are some of the struggles your company has overcome to get to where it is today? 
JB: Bathtub blenders, 2008 Recession

IDA: Why does your company believe it is beneficial to support the IDA? 
JB: To mobilize, legitimize and professionalize the detail industry.

IDA: As a supplier, what changes would you like to see be made in the detailing industry? 
JB: All suppliers held to same standard regarding VOC & GHS Compliance.

IDA at MTE Orlando 2020: January 30 – February 1, 2020

Every year, the IDA has a major presence at the Mobile Tech Expo (MTE) in Orlando and, most recently, in Las Vegas.  With MTE Orlando 2020 just around the corner, be sure to mark January 30th – February 1st on your calendar as days to visit sunny Orlando and come visit the IDA.  The IDA booth will be buzzing with activity throughout the weekend with refreshments, loads of information about the association, and a bunch of friendly faces of volunteers there to answer any questions you might have. Having the correct materials and processes applied to the detailing job is critical to for a shop to maximize profitability.  Because there are many paint conditions, having a system to correctly identify the surface, materials needed, and required equipment, it is essential that detail shops have a robust paint correction processes. 

Both of us started our careers in this industry as detailers, in the trenches feeding our families with the profits of our businesses. Although our businesses were started over thirty years apart and on different coasts of our beautiful country, profits were VERY important. We have both experienced ‘that detail’ that we just didn’t make any money on, and we are sure you have too. To help you create a system with paint correction that helps eliminate this, we will go over the current 4 P’s of Paint Correction and add the always asked for 5^th P of Paint Correction. (Read more)
