In this month’s letter, we’re going to talk about appropriate self-promotion.  For many of us, we are our detailing business.  Although we may have a “dba” or business name that is completely separate from our actual personal name, we are still the “face” of the business.  As such, it is important to share with our customers and potential customers — without being obnoxious — our professional experiences.

The most obvious way to do this is to share and display your professional certifications and awards.  Make sure to tell your clients about your achievements and credentials.  It helps build value and trust.  Hang your certificates where they can be seen or have them in a binder to view during your service quote.  Put your certifications on all of your marketing materials: business cards, letterhead, website, Facebook page, invoices, brochures, signage, work vehicles, and shop windows.  (Read more)

Due to our recent website upgrade, anyone who signed up for Membership Auto-Renewal BEFORE August 29, 2018 will need to log-in to their account to manually renew for the 2019 membership year.  We could not transfer your saved payment information over to the new website because of PCI compliance (credit card data security) requirements, so for this year only, a manual renewal will be necessary. 

Renewal opens two months prior to your membership expiration date.  You can renew your membership by visiting the Membership tab in your profile.  Additional reminders will be sent to individuals as your expiration date approaches.

Professional detailers will often encounter surface conditions where standard detailing products and processes can’t do the job.  They need to resort to more aggressive products and processes to repair paint and restore the surface to like-new condition.

Paint Correction Systems have been developed to address difficult surface conditions like oxidation, scratches, acid rain, or other environmental contaminants.  Generally, these systems include compounds with various abrasiveness, pads, and polishing equipment (like a rotary or DA polisher).  While you should follow the manufacturer’s instructions, there are several things to consider to achieve successful results. 

As you begin the process, it is important that the vehicle is prepped correctly.  Start with a clean, smooth surface to avoid working over the top of contaminants.  To do this, clean the car with soap and water, followed by claying the painted surface.  (Read more)
