| President's Letter |
|
By Jonathan Munsell, CD, 2019 IDA President
I hope when you get this letter things are fantastic in your world; business is building, and you have all the business you can handle. In North Carolina the weather is absolutely beautiful, and it is peak detailing season. "Pollengeddon" is basically done!
Last month I went on a bit of a rant about “Marketing is a Process, not an Event” and you have to get off the “Marketing Rollercoaster”. This month I want to take it a bit further…
You Must Take Action on the Right Activities.
There are two parts to this. Taking action is one thing. Lots of people, especially in the detailing industry are very good – they’re not lazy people – they work hard, long hours, so they’re doing lots of things. You need to put all your effort and energy into the right activities. (Read More)

| IDA Member Spotlight |
|
Each month we feature a Member Spotlight. This month we're talking with IDA Marketing & Communications Committee Co-Chair, Kenya Williams, CD-SV, owner of I Shine For You Auto Detailing, in Williamsburg, Virginia.
|

|
International Detailing Association (IDA): How did you get into the detailing industry?
Kenya Williams (KW): I entered the detailing industry after spending eight years as a Nuclear Engineer, building the Nuclear Reactors for the US Navy Gerald R. Ford Aircraft Carrier, where everything had to be clean. After completing this ship, I decided it was time to run my detailing business full-time. I started with a passion for cars, then it turned into a daily chore, and then a business. This coming June marks five years since I started I Shine For You Auto Detailing.
IDA: Tell us a bit about your business.
KW: I Shine For You was founded in Suffolk, Virginia in 2014 as a mobile unit. I started off detailing for friends and family on nights and weekends while working as a Nuclear Engineer. After getting my feet wet in the industry and tearing a rotator cuff, in 2016 I moved into a detailing shop in Williamsburg, Virginia and went into detailing full-time. From a one-man operation to a full-time business, I Shine For You offers auto detailing services, paint protection, water damage remediation, and glass protection. (Read more)

| Welcome to Our New India Chapter! |
|

We are pleased to announce the newly established IDA India Chapter! The Chapter was officially approved by the IDA Board of Directors earlier this month and is our fourth international Chapter overall.
The detailing community is growing rapidly in India. The goal in forming this Chapter is to help promote the success and growth of the detailing industry in India and to create credibility for our profession.
Meet our IDA India Chapter Board Members:
"I decided to establish a chapter because the detailing community in India is growing fast and and by establishing a local chapter [we can] promote the success and growth of the detailing industry in India. A short term benefit will be increasing recognition of certified detailers and in the long term, [we can] create credibility and improve the quality of work and share information and support with the community."
- IDA India Chapter President Anckur Sama

| I Used To Dream Too Small |
|
By Tony Whatley
365 Driven
When you are surrounded by those with an average mindset, you may adopt average goals. I grew up thinking that success meant getting a high school education, a house, a family, a car, and a “steady job”.
I grew up in a 1,000 sq-ft home, in a small suburb of Houston. My parents were hard workers. We were never poor, but we never had luxuries either. Every dollar that came into that house was based on sweat equity. Like most, it was just trading hours for dollars. Marking your calendar for paydays, so that you wouldn’t overspend your check.
I learned to value working hard. I also figured my life would be a repeat of how I grew up. That was the norm. You see, people rarely climb out of their financial demographic. The mindset sets in, and they become comfortable when they achieve what everyone around them achieves. (Read more)

| Website Tips & Tricks: Recertification |
|
Recertification is required of Certified Detailers at all levels as a part of certification and skill maintenance.
What is recertification?
Recertification is the process of maintaining your certification, which is required if you wish to keep your credentials of Certified Detailer, Skills Validated, or Recognized Trainer. To maintain your certification, you must complete 8 full hours of detailing-related continuing education over a two-year period beginning with the month of your initial certification. You will receive one CD credit hour for each full clock hour of a qualifying program with a max of 4 credit hours per calendar day. (MTE's Education Day is the only exception to this.) (Read more)
