| President's Letter |

By DJ Patterson, CD-SV, 2020 IDA President
Hello IDA Community!
A lot of us are finally simmering down from the Mobile Tech Expo “high”. The detailing community truly showed up at MTE Orlando! The amount of relationships that were created and knowledge that was shared during this past event is what it’s all about! Our Annual Business Meeting & Awards Presentation was a success. I recall standing on stage and stating that we have over 1700 members in 69 different countries! How awesome is that!? We are truly an International Detailing Association. Heck, I got the opportunity to chat with the President of our India Chapter in person while at MTE.
|
Major congratulations to the 2020 IDA Award Winners and the Inaugural Hall of Fame Class of 2020! We had roughly 15 New Member sign ups, 35 Certified Detailers, and 23 Skills Validated Detailers during MTE! Woohoo!
This is the absolute best time to get involved with the IDA movement! Use your gifts and talents in the various committees so we can accelerate the growth of the IDA. Our committees meet once per month by phone or computer for roughly an hour. There is nothing like seeing your ideas and hard work, that align with the goals of the IDA, come to fruition through these committees. There is power in numbers and with the amount of talented people we have within our organization; we can get an insane amount accomplished this year!
I hope you all have a prosperous month in life and in business. I look forward to reporting back in our March Newsletter. Stay in touch! Connect with me on IG and Facebook: @djpatterson
Sincerely,

| IDA Member Spotlight |

Each month we feature a Member Spotlight. This month we're talking with Chris West, Founder & CEO of Solution Finnish, and Founder's Club Member.
International Detailing Association (IDA): How did you get into the detailing industry?
Chris West (CW): When I invented Solution Finish in 2010, I used Professional Detailers to test the product a year before I actually launched it. So, the detailing industry got in with me... I’m still a detailing hack, truly.
IDA: Tell us a bit about your business.
CW: Thanks to our amazing detailers and distributors, Solution Finish has doubled our sales every year since I started the business. Solution Finish is now in eight countries and still expanding. We are on our third generation of the formula, and I believe it’s going to keep getting better. (Read more)

| IDA Sponsor Spotlight |
|
This month, we chatted with Scott Morgan, Senior Product Manager of 2020 IDA Diamond Sponsor Auto Magic.
|
International Detailing Association: How long have you been with this company? Scott Morgan: I've been with Auto Magic for 12 years now.
IDA: Were you a detailer prior to becoming a supplier? SM: No, I worked on other Automotive Product Management teams with ITW Evercoat.
IDA: What type of training does your business offer? SM: We have two IDA Recognized Trainers, Steve Winfield and Tyler Cucchi. We are very proud that they are recognized and participate in IDA training. We also have our 6 Stages of Reconditioning, which is a step-by-step guide to completely detailing a car.
IDA: What makes your company unique compared to other suppliers? SM: We have many things that differentiate our company. For starters, our company has a long history. We have been in the Automotive Detailing business for 60 years and have just been inducted into the IDA Founder's Club. We also have unique proprietary products that are industry standards, like Red Hot and Special Cleaner. Auto Magic has sold Clay bars for more than 25 years and almost every detailer has used our product. We are also lucky to have the backing and support of ITW, a Forbes 500 company.
IDA: Is there any advice you would give to detailers that may be looking into transitioning to product sales, distribution, or manufacturing? SM: My best advice is to get to know the products you offer backwards and forward. Your knowledge to the end users becomes invaluable and you become their “go to” expert to help them solve problems which leads to success in growing your business.
IDA: What are some of the struggles your company has overcome to get to where it is today? SM: Our biggest struggle is making sure we are at the forefront of new product development. It is the lifeline of business growth and we fell behind for a time, but have come back with our Paint Correction System and Poly Magic launches and have many exciting new products in our pipeline.
IDA: Why does your company believe it is beneficial to support the IDA? SM: In addition to supporting the industry organization that services our industry, education is key to the detailing business. Knowing how to use the products you offer to maximize their effectiveness and speed of delivering a quality detail to your customer will lead to long term success for detailers and IDA provides a platform for educating those new and veteran in our business.
IDA: As a supplier, what changes would you like to see be made in the detailing industry? SM: Increases in detailer knowledge and the ability to communicate changes in the industry as products and laws evolve. Safety is a prime concern of the detailing world and with laws and rules evolving everyday, there needs to be a place for the detailers to go to be educated and kept up to speed. | Tradeshows with the IDA: MTE Orlando and More |
|
-Written by Alex Hazard To those of you reading this that attended MTE Orlando and stopped by to visit with someone from the IDA, THANK YOU! We always love being able to match names with faces and hear about what you have going on back home with your businesses. A special congratulations to all of the individuals that passed their Certified Detailer (CD) exams, the Skills Validated (SV) testing, or both CD and SV at MTE Orlando this year. This turned out to be a huge event for the IDA, and all of you have a part in that. To give some statistics to those of you that don’t already know, we had 35 detailers achieve their IDA Certified Detailer designation at MTE on Friday, January 31st. We also had 23 detailers attempt and pass their IDA Skills Validated testing on Saturday, February 1st. The turnout for both of these events were a tradeshow record for the IDA. What an emphatic way to continue proving what the detailing industry is all about. (Read more)
