| President's Letter |
|
By Jonathan Munsell, CD, 2019 IDA President
Hello hello!! I am excited to share my monthly message to the best detailers, suppliers, and distributors in the world!
Through these monthly letters, I have been taking you on a journey that is hopefully teaching and helping you understand there is more to this business than shiny cars. If this is your business, you need to treat it as such and the information I have been sharing is designed to get you out of the day-to-day grind and get you to a place of working on your business and less in it.
Most of what I have discussed so far this year has been foundational. I’m thinking that the timing couldn’t be better to shift this into high gear. It’s mid-year and a great time to go back to your goals and make sure things are on track. Now is a perfect time to take the information I have been sharing and put it to work to make your business as incredible as the vision you first had when you decided to go it on your own.
The foundation prepares the mind…and now it’s time to plant and harvest.
Realizing The Importance of Direct Marketing and Focusing on it.
Now you recognize that you’re in the business of marketing memorable experiences and creating a real WOW for your clients. That means you become a marketer and you need to focus all your energy and resources in becoming better at it, looking for new ways to do it, honing your skills, studying the masters. (Read More)

| IDA Member Spotlight |
|
Each month we feature a Member Spotlight. This month we're talking with the chair of the Membership Committee, Joseph DiFiore, CD-SV, owner of DiFiore's Auto Detailing in Norwich, Connecticut.
International Detailing Association (IDA): How did you get into the detailing industry?
Joseph DiFiore (JD): In 1984 I started cleaning and waxing cars in my backyard in Norwich, Ct. Then in 1987 I built a garage in my backyard, the phone kept ringing and I kept filling orders for clean and shine. I quit my job in Spring of 1988 and never looked back.
IDA: Tell us a bit about your business.
JD: Cleaning my father’s car was one of my chores growing up. I cleaned and waxed cars as a side business in Clveland, Ohio from 1978 to 1979. Then in 1984 I started a home based side detailing business in Norwich, CT with just $50. Finally was able to open DiFiore's Auto Detailing full time in 1988. Detailing for me is all about lifestyle and freedom.
IDA:What products or services does DiFiore's Auto Detailing specialize in?
JD: We specialize in scratch repair along with color filling, smoke/odor removal, and restoration detailing. (Read more)

| What the IDA Certifications Mean |
|
As we head into the heat of the summer and the peak of a busy season in the detailing industry, it is important to keep your motivation high, your pride in work lofty, and happy customers as a result. We all know that summer can often lead to long days and a lot of hard work, so how do you keep your head high and continue operating with the standards that are going to keep your customers coming back?
Take a look at the IDA certificate you have hanging on the wall in your shop, or recognize the IDA decal stuck in the window of your work vehicle. Take a look at how great you look in your uniform with those IDA certification patches representing all of the hard work you have put into the industry so far. At the end of a long, hectic, and exhausting day, IDA detailers with certification designations have something that nobody else does – recognition as being one of the best in the industry. | Quarterly Committee Updates |
|
Membership Committee
Our IDA new membership roster continues to grow each passing month and creating new resources for future membership engagement is a focus for our committee.
This past quarter our committee’s focus has been centered around the completion of the New Member Orientation video that outlines member benefits and resources. Jason Rose has been most instrumental lending his expertise to help finalize completion of this project. Our committee is most grateful to The Rag Co. for their donation of resources as Dane and Tim were extremely helpful lifting this networked project for the IDA. Committee Co-Chair Michael Stoops contributed a professionally written script and recorded narration for this video. It is our committee's goal to have this project wrapped up in the next month or so with final edits. The next focus for our committee will be creating a dealership category for the IDA website.
Joseph DiFiore, CD-SV, Membership Committee Chair
Chapter Development Committee
The Chapter development committee has been working diligently to help expand the reach of The IDA internationally. We are helping to support the existing chapters in India (which just came aboard), New Zealand, Norway and the UK. Our focus is to begin by helping them institute the certification program in their respective countries and get it mobile and actively holding certification events. We are also working with incoming chapters to get them set up. Though they are not officially IDA chapters to date, we expect that we will have them aboard shortly. These regions include China, France, South East Asia, Australia and Colombia. There are many more interested parties worldwide that we look forward to working with. The development of these international chapters is paramount for our committee and we hope that this momentum continues so we can unite the professional detail community as a whole to spread knowledge and standards for the industry. As always, we are looking for industry leaders around the world to fly the IDA flag so please reach out to us to see how we can assist you!
Thomas Palancia, CD-SV, RT, Board Member
Marcomm Committee
The first half of 2019 is over already! As we continue through detailing busy season the Marcomm Committee is busy working away at our goals.
Our two main focuses so far this year have been increasing social media traffic and raising consumer awareness.
If you haven't seen our social media pages lately you're missing out on some great posts! We have recently put more focus into building our Instagram account and it's been growing steadily with followers worldwide. We have also been showcasing some of our IDA volunteers such as committee chairs and board members in our posts to help members get to know some of the people behind the scenes. If you aren't following our pages, make sure to give them a like and please interact in order to help us continue our growth.
In addition to social media, we have been working on a new consumer awareness page for the IDA Website. This page will act as a tool for members to use when selling their services to prospective customers. It will contain information about the IDA, many frequently asked questions explaining the basics of our industry and a great video that can be shared on social media. The more this page is shared, the more awareness will be created. Keep an eye out for it launching soon.
On behalf of the Marcomm Committee we hope you have a happy and safe summer!
Vincent Macri, CD-SV, Marcomm Committee Chair

| Let's Educate! |
|
By Todd Isaac, CD-SV,
Jax Wax Car Care Products, Columbus, OH
With social media becoming more and more mainstream, it’s an internet marketer's ideal situation to try and capitalize. While the price of Facebook ads are still relatively under priced it does seem as if there is a new “Car Care Line” every time you go for a good scroll. I’ve even noticed on a local level there is a new “Professional Detail Shop” every week. Not everyone starting the new line or new shop is bad but the ones that are misleading consumers make it tough for the ones doing it the right way. So let’s educate! (Read More)

| IDA Website Spotlight: Payments & History |
|
Whenever you make a transaction within the IDA website, whether it is for a store order, event registration, or paying your membership dues, the transaction is recorded in your account. If you pay by credit card, the transaction will be saved with a receipt. If you choose the "Bill Me" or "Check/Money Order" option at checkout, an invoice is automatically created for you – this article will show you where to access your invoices and how to pay them. If you are a main account and any of your employees choose the "Bill to Master" option at checkout, this article shows where to access those invoices and pay them as well. (Read more)
