My monthly message to the best detailers, suppliers, manufacturers, and distributors in the world.

By the time you receive this I will be embarking on an “International Mission” for the IDA. I am traveling as our ambassador to England, France, and Norway from July 17 – July 28.

This is a very exciting time for the IDA! We continue to grow in the United States as well as around the world. Part of “My Mission” is to represent us at Waxstock, a huge event in England, where I will get some great face to face time with our UK Board along with our members. This is so exciting!

In France, I will take part in formalizing our new France Chapter, which was recently approved for operation. In Norway, I will be with our Norway Chapter representatives working on building their already existing chapter.

I am super fortunate to be traveling with Alan Medcraf, “International Detailing Rockstar.” Alan has his own very successful detailing business in Scotland (AMDetails) and is an IDA RT (Recognized Trainer) covering all parts of Europe and beyond. He will be conducting CD certification and SV skills validated sessions at each of the countries we visit.  I invite all members in and around these countries to join us for these certification events or simply as we host live Q&A sessions and Meet & Greet events in each country.

Each month we feature a Member Spotlight. This month we're talking with the chair of the Marketing & Communications Committee, Vincent Macri, CD-SV, owner of A1 Mobile Detailing LLC and Wrap N Shine Auto Spa in Shelton, Connecticut.

International Detailing Association (IDA): How did you get into the detailing industry?

Vincent Macri (VM):  Well, I have always been a car guy. Early on I dreamed of owning a shop working on performance vehicles. After high school I went to automotive trade school and became a mechanic for a few years. Some real bad life choices led me astray and I ended up spending a few years in prison. While on work release I got a job at a car wash. I was originally hired to install accessories such as alarms and audio equipment but during my down time I would help out in the detailing department. I quickly fell in love with learning the trade and was promoted to management after a few short months. Years later I own my second detailing business. Detailing seriously gave me a second chance at success where other industries turned their back on me due to my criminal record.

IDA: Tell us a bit about your business.

VM: After working as an employee for two detailing shops that failed, I decided to go back to being a mechanic. After burning out working for other people I decided that I work too hard to be working for others and it was time to work for myself. I really enjoyed my time detailing so I decided to open a mobile detailing business. Before I had any product, equipment, customers or business plan, I quit my full time job as a mechanic and dove in to entrepreneurship head first. Years later I own and operate two growing businesses: one mobile and one brick and mortar location. (Read more)

This month’s article goes out to all of the people taking the time to check out the IDA newsletter, that have not taken the time to pursue achieving an IDA certification. Why are you waiting?! There are so many benefits to be had in the IDA, and certification is arguably one of the biggest. Sure, you might be extremely busy. Maybe it seems like a lot of money at this point in time of your career. Always remember that you get out of something – what you put in. The IDA is the most beneficial to those that are most heavily involved and the benefits are only going to get better as the IDA continues to grow and develop. In the same way, the more that you invest into your business, the more benefit you are going to get out of that investment. (Read more)

In 2019 the Digital Presence of your business means everything. It can make or break you. Facebook, Google, Yelp, Nextdoor, Instagram and many other websites offer an abundance of opportunities to spend money on advertising with them, with promises of great return on your investment.

What if there is a way for you to continuously drive pre-qualified customers to your business FOR FREE? I know, sounds like a sales pitch… right? It’s not! Que in, ONLINE REVIEWS. Many of us have a love-hate relationship with reviews. Especially when we are trying to build our online reputation. On one hand, good reviews help promote your business and on the other, negative reviews can have a very adverse effect on incoming customers. Knowing how to manage, promote and capitalize on your reviews is imperative to the growth of your business both digitally and physically. (Read more)
