By Justin Labato, CD-SV, RT
As this newsletter “goes to press”, we are in the midst of SEMA. The main reason to go to SEMA has dramatically changed from 10 years ago. Back then, you went to SEMA to see all the new stuff in the automotive world. Nowadays, you still go to SEMA for that, but also to mingle with the hundreds of detailing industry folks that attend — detailing business owners, distributors, manufacturers, and suppliers.
This is one of the perks of membership in the International Detailing Association. The IDA movement has brought detailers and detailing suppliers together into a community that is supportive instead of competitive. It’s fascinating, for example, to see the lead sales manager of one popular polisher chatting and shaking hands with the sales crew in the booth of another popular polisher! I doubt this would have happened 10 years ago. (Read more)

Help your team reach a new level of detailing success with the IDA!
It's now easier than ever to get your whole company or team involved with the IDA, thanks to new employee pricing!
Operators, Suppliers (Distributors and Manufacturers), and Institutional members can now add employees to their existing company accounts with just a few clicks of the button. This makes it cost-efficient and convenient for everyone on your team to access prime member benefits, receive a discount on the IDA Certification program, and take their professional detailing skills to the next level.
New employee member pricing is as follows:
- Operators: Full membership access for an unlimited number of employees at $25 per person, per year.
- Supplier - Manufacturers: Full membership access for five (5) designated company employees, included with membership.
- Additional membership access for an unlimited number of employees at $25 per person, per year.
- Supplier - Distributors: Full membership access for an unlimited number of employees at $25 per person, per year.
- Institutions: Full membership access for an unlimited number of employees, included with membership.

| Start Shopping at the IDA Merchandise Store |
|
There’s a new way to show your pride for the International Detailing Association – with branded logo-wear from the IDA Merchandise Store!
The IDA recently launched the store, featuring high-quality logo-wear including work shirts, polos, caps, and more. Now you can proudly represent the IDA wherever you are: at the shop, events and tradeshows, client meetings, and beyond.
The launch of the IDA Merchandise Store is another step toward establishing the association as an integral part of the detailing industry. In combination with other organization-wide efforts over the past year, the re-introduction of logo-wear is meant to continue spreading a positive awareness of the IDA and the detailing profession, not only within the automotive industry, but to the general population as well.
To purchase your own IDA apparel, visit the merchandise store and start shopping today! (If you want your logo-wear in time for the holidays — these make great employee gifts! — or Mobile Tech Expo, we recommend placing your orders sooner rather than later!)
Happy shopping!

| Quarterly Committee Updates |
|
Marketing & Communications Committee
The fourth quarter of the year is upon us and the MarComm Committee is still hard at work on our 2018 goals!
In August, we launched the new IDA website, built to better serve our members, the detailing industry at large, and consumers. As we enter phase two of the redesign, we continue looking to create great content for industry professionals as well as the general public. Members and certified detailers are encouraged to create video testimonials expressing how they have benefited from the IDA. We are also seeking videos from customers, explaining why they chose an IDA detailer for their services. Contact Chair Vincent Macri for more information or to submit your videos.
Speaking of IDA detailers, find us on Instagram as we plan to roll out much more content and share pictures that highlight our members and the great work they are doing for the industry. Don't forget to use our hashtag, #IDAdetailers, for your chance to be featured on our page.
Our committee continues to look for volunteers with a deep understanding of marketing and social media so we can continue to grow our presence across all channels and platforms. Anyone who is interested can contact Chair Vincent Macri or Co-Chair Kenya Williams.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee delivered the member needs survey in
September and is currently reviewing your responses as our future
initiatives will be centered around what is most important to you, our members.
We are currently working on ambitious projects to further enhance membership value, including a membership hard-copy newsletter to provide detailed information about our committee's work, your membership benefits, with IDA organizational charts, contacts, and pictures from our events.
MTE will soon be here and our committee will be hard at work for you there as well. We will coordinate with various IDA leaders and members like you as our committee will launch a "New Member Orientation" pre-recorded webinar on demand in 2019.

| Are You a Cleaner or a Professional Detailer? |
|
By Jonathan Leonard, CD
Flawless Cleaning and Detailing
What's the difference between a cleaner and a professional detailer?
Cleaners are those who focus on getting customers in the door with a low price, using non-professional chemicals and tools to detail one of a consumer's most prized possessions. Many cleaners have no formal training, nor the knowledge of how to properly assess various issues which may arise, such as removing a blood stain. If improperly approached by a cleaner, the stain can then become permanent.
On the other hand, professional detailers use the highest quality chemicals, not typically found at your local parts store or supermarket. Equipment like commercial-grade upholstery machines and steam cleaners are staples in a professional's shop. Most professionals attend training courses and/or get involved in forums to stay up to date with the ever-changing industry. Professionals know the proper techniques to safely detail for the best results. In turn, the price of their services will reflect this. (Read more)
