IDA Introduces Twice Yearly Global SV Week

Newly Skills Validated member Kevin Balmer, CD-SV, (left) with Paulo Assuncao, CD-SV, MC, RVC, WC, RIT, during the Global SV Week event held at OP St. Albert in Canada (📸 credit: Paulo Assuncao, CD-SV, MC, RVC, WC, RIT)

The IDA Certification Committee—with Board, RIT, and international Chapter support—has decided to hold two annual Global SV Weeks, with the first taking place earlier this month, April 13–19. The second is scheduled for October 12–18.

Not only will this be more convenient for Recognized Independent Trainers (RITs), who are required to host an event during one of the two weeks or risk losing their RIT status, but it will also make it easier for detailers looking to become skills validated,
who may need to travel a considerable distance to a testing location or take time off work. Now, they will have several options throughout the year from which to pick (along with regularly scheduled SV events throughout the year).

April's Global SV Week was intended to focus on specialty exams, whereas the October event will be more SV-centric, but all certifications will be offered throughout both weeks (depending on the RIT; check the event schedule before registering).

In total, the IDA welcomed 14 new certificants over the course of the week. Thank you to all RITs who shared their time and hosted exams during this international event! Congratulations to all the new Certified Detailers and Skills Validated detailers—what
an exciting accomplishment to set yourself apart within the industry!

President's Letter – April 2026

IDA Certification Event hosted in Poland by CLEANCAR.PL during the 1st of 2 Global SV Weeks in 2026 (📸 via Adam Garbacz, CD-SV, RVC, RIT)

As we wrap up the first month of Q2, I’m excited to share some highlights of the IDA’s progress so far this year.

One of our biggest accomplishments has been the launch of our new Learning Management System, IDA I.Q. If you haven’t had a chance to explore it yet, I highly encourage you to take it for a test
drive. This system has significantly streamlined the certification process for our members, reducing the amount of manual work required to issue certifications. It has also made exams more efficient and accessible by moving them fully online.

Another major win this quarter is our newly redesigned website home page. A big thank you to Erin at ADS (our association management company), along with Rod Puzey, CD-SV, MC, WC, and Jody Sedrick, for
the countless hours they’ve dedicated to creating a fresh look, improved navigation, and an overall better user experience. And we’re not stopping there—this is just phase one of bringing our website into the future.

We’re also excited to see increased engagement across our committees. More members are stepping up and contributing their time and energy toward achieving committee goals, which is a
great sign of a strong and growing organization.

Throughout April, we have been celebrating IDA Meet & Greet Month. This has been a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow members, exchange ideas, and welcome new faces into our community. We encourage everyone to take advantage of Meet &
Greets when they pop up in your local area throughout the year—check the event schedule.

In addition, we held the first of two Global SV Weeks this year, with participation from Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Germany, Poland, Singapore, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It’s truly exciting
to see the global reach and impact of the IDA. Save the date for the next Global SV Week, October 12–18!

Thank you to everyone who attended last month’s Town Hall. If you haven’t participated in one yet, it’s a great way to stay informed, ask questions, and make your voice heard. Be
sure to mark your calendar for our next Town Hall on June 11.

As always, it is an honor to serve as your president. Your feedback and ideas are incredibly important; after all, everything we do is for our members. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and share your suggestions so we can continue to grow and improve
    together.

Sponsor Spotlight: UFS

UFS (Uğurlu Finisaj Sistemleri A.Ş.) / EN UFS (Uğurlu Finishing Systems Inc.) is a valued IDA Diamond Sponsor. For our latest Sponsor Spotlight, we spoke with
Kerem Uğurlu, International Marketing Responsible for UFS.

International Detailing Association (IDA): How long have you been with UFS?
Kerem Uğurlu (KU): I have been actively working at the company for 3 years, and I have been involved with the business for a total
of 8 years. My brother and I represent the second generation of our family company.

IDA: Were you a detailer prior to becoming a supplier?
KU: No, I was not. Our company was founded in 1976 and started manufacturing polishing pads in 1984, so our background has always been rooted in production
and supply rather than detailing services.

IDA: What type of training does your business offer?
KU: Our organization actively provides training programs at our factory, with a strong focus on supporting the next generation of professionals. We offer
vocational high school students training in paint and surface finishing processes, and we provide students from the Kocaeli University Formula Racing Team, which we proudly sponsor, with training on carbon fiber materials and surface preparation.
In addition, we deliver product training, surface preparation training, and material knowledge sessions for professionals, while also planning new educational series for amateur users.

IDA: What are some of your company’s attributes that make you stand out in the industry?
KU: Our company stands out through its long-standing manufacturing heritage, deep technical know-how, and strong commitment
to natural wool polishing solutions. Founded in 1976, and manufacturing polishing pads since 1984, we combine decades of production experience with a forward-looking approach to innovation, R&D processes, training, and product development. We
further differentiate ourselves through our focus on consistent quality, technical performance, and close engagement with professionals across multiple industries, ranging from global OEM suppliers to end users in sectors such as marine and musical
    instruments.

IDA: Is there any advice you would give to detailers that may be looking into transitioning to product sales, distribution, or manufacturing?
KU: My advice would be to first develop a strong technical understanding
of the products, materials, and application processes behind the business. Success in sales, distribution, or manufacturing is not only about commercial ability, but also about understanding user needs, product performance, and long-term trust. It
is also important to be patient, build credibility step by step, and focus on offering real value rather than only competing on price.

IDA: What are some of the struggles your company has overcome to get to where it is today?
KU: Rather than defining our journey through difficulties alone, we see our main challenges as the factors that
continuously push us forward. One of the most important of these is understanding the evolving needs of both our private label partners and direct OEM customers, and developing tailor-made solutions accordingly. This requires us to stay constantly
engaged in R&D, continuously improve our products, and keep our organization dynamic and responsive.

IDA: Why does your company believe it is beneficial to support the IDA?
KU: We believe supporting the IDA is valuable because it contributes to the professional development, technical awareness, and global
connection of the detailing industry. Organizations like the IDA help raise standards, encourage education, and create stronger links between manufacturers, suppliers, and detailers. As a supplier, we see this as an important opportunity to contribute
to the growth of the industry while also learning from the professionals who use products in real-world applications every day.

IDA: As a supplier, what changes would you like to see made in the detailing industry?
KU: As a supplier, we would like to see a stronger focus on technical education, product awareness, and long-term performance
rather than short-term price comparisons alone. We believe the industry would benefit from more informed product selection, better understanding of surface preparation processes, and greater appreciation for the role that material quality plays in
the final result. We would also like to see stronger collaboration between manufacturers, suppliers, and detailers in order to support innovation and raise overall industry standards.

This certification day had a strong international presence. The first candidate was Portuguese-speaking, followed by several Japanese-speaking candidates, each accompanied by a translator they brought with them. Translation was done live and step by step.
While it naturally added time to the process, it also made the day more engaging. Clear demonstrations, patience, and the occasional round of hand-gesture “charades” helped bridge gaps when technical terminology didn’t translate cleanly.

Language differences aside, the level of skill and professionalism was impressive across the board. I felt confident in every candidate’s knowledge and hands-on ability, and all of the candidates successfully passed their Skills Validation. Their consistency,
attention to detail, and respect for process made it clear that quality craftsmanship speaks a universal language.

The day was a great snapshot of the IDA’s expanding global reach and the value of hosting Skills Validation at major industry events like MTE. Offering hands-on certification at shows like this continues to attract professionals from around the world
and reinforces the importance of standardized, skills-based evaluation.

Experiences like this highlight why getting involved with the IDA matters—whether that means becoming a member, pursuing certification (membership not required), or simply staying engaged. The IDA brings the industry together, raises the bar for professionalism,
and proves that education and skills validation truly matter—no matter where you’re from or what language you speak.

Professional Detailer Day Unites and Highlights Community Through Social Media

February 15, 2026, was a wild ride! The IDA social channels were flooded with posts, stories, and tags from current members, Certified Detailers, and sponsors. Seeing detailers from all over the world unite through social media to celebrate their passion
and dedication in various languages was truly moving.

This year, the IDA rebranded "Love Your Detailer Day" to Professional Detailer Day (PDD) to show the world what we’re truly about. As detailers, we know our work goes far beyond washing cars, motorcycles, RVs, planes, and boats. It’s about protecting
assets, providing top-notch service, and bringing precision and care to every vehicle we touch.

PDD was our stage to highlight the craft, including new services, shop openings, recent investments in bays and mobile units, new certifications, and milestones from MTE. Also, the support systems and "special someones" who make our careers possible.

As your 2026 SoComm Chair, my goal is to keep the spotlight on you. We will continue to showcase those advocating for their communities, highlight networking opportunities, and share your progress.

We are just getting started!

Below we're sharing some highlights from Professional Detailer Day. Thank you for sharing your journey with us, everyone!

anytime for your chance to be featured. We love seeing what the #IDAdetailers community is up to year-round!

Mobile Tech Expo: Where Education, Access, and Opportunity Meet

By Chad Emerson, CD-SV, RIT
Owner/Detailer, CME Shine Auto Detailing
Chair, IDA Events & Education Committee

Chad Emerson, CD-SV, RIT (left) with IDA Board Member Josh Petro, CD-SV, at Mobile Tech Expo 2026

If you’re serious about growth in this industry, Mobile Tech Expo isn’t optional—it’s strategic.

Every year, detailers look for ways to sharpen their skills, strengthen their businesses, and stay ahead of what’s coming next. Mobile Tech Expo (MTE) continues to be one of the most focused and valuable events for professionals who want more than just
    a tradeshow experience.

This is where education meets access. This is where networking becomes opportunity. This is where forward momentum begins.

7 HOURS. 7 FOCUSED TRAINING TRACKS.

For Education Day this year (held the day before the expo began), attendees had access to 7 hours of training across seven critical areas, including:

Business & Marketing

Detailing

Paintless Dent Repair (PDR)

Profit Maximizing Strategies

Tools of the Trade

Insights Directly from the Exhibit Floor

IDA Education

This well-rounded approach ensures that you’re strengthening both your hands-on skills and your business foundation, because long-term success requires both.

IDA EDUCATION THAT COUNTS

This year’s event featured 12 IDA sessions, all of which offered CEU credits toward certification maintenance (as did all other detailing-related classes!). That means the time you invest isn’t just educational—it directly supports your professional development
    within the association.

The IDA educational lineup included two class of 2026 Hall of Fame inductees—Rob Schruefer, CD-SV, MC-SV, RVC, WC, RIT, and Robert Wrasman, CD-SV, RIT—alongside many other respected industry leaders.

When you’re learning from individuals who have shaped this industry for decades, you’re not just gaining techniques, you’re gaining perspective.

A DIFFERENT PACE — AND A STRONGER IMPACT

Chad (center) making connections with fellow IDA members at MTE 2026

Large industry shows have their place. The energy can be incredible. But they can also be overwhelming.

Mobile Tech Expo offers a more focused environment. The pace allows for meaningful one-on-one conversations with vendors and manufacturers. It provides real access to educators and industry legends. It gives you space to ask deeper questions and build
    stronger relationships.

That access matters. You’re not fighting crowds. You’re building connections.

SEE WHAT’S NEXT — BEFORE YOUR MARKET DOES

Mobile Tech Expo provides hands-on exposure to new and emerging products, tools, and technologies. From polishers and lighting systems to coatings and efficiency upgrades, you can test, compare, and speak directly with the people behind the products.

That kind of access allows you to make informed decisions—and stay ahead in your region.

Professionals who invest in staying current are the ones who set the standards in their local markets.

GROW YOUR NETWORK. GROW YOUR BUSINESS.

Chad (right) with his first Skills Validated (SV) exam certificant as a Recognized Independent Trainer (RIT) at MTE 2026 (Photo Credit: CME Shine Auto Detailing LLC on Facebook)

Events like MTE bring together detailers, PDR technicians, manufacturers, distributors, educators, and association leaders from across the country. The conversations you have may lead to partnerships, mentorship, or new revenue streams. Or they may simply
give you clarity on your next move.

Either way—growth happens in the room.

THE INVESTMENT IS IN YOUR FUTURE

Mobile Tech Expo is more than a date on the calendar. It’s CEU credits. It’s Hall of Fame level instruction. It’s focused training. It’s meaningful access. It’s opportunity.

For professionals committed to raising their standards and elevating the industry, this is where you show up. The industry will be there. Will you?

The IDA Q1 Town Hall: Starting Strong and Powering into 2026 on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 12:00 pm CDT, will further recap MTE and dive deeper into our goals for the upcoming year. It will be presented by IDA President Meghan Poirier, CD, President-Elect Josh Pierce, CD-SV, MC, RVC, WC, RIT, and Immediate Past President Craig Brigham, CD-SV, MC. Register now!

President's Letter – February 2026

IDA Awards Gala & Annual Business Meeting at Mobile Tech Expo 2026 in Orlando, Florida, United States

As we enter 2026, I want to start by saying thank you—for trusting me to lead the IDA this year. I don’t take that responsibility lightly.

I’d also like to extend a sincere thank you to Craig Brigham for helping get us to where we are today. His leadership throughout 2025 was impressive, and it was a privilege to work alongside him and see his vision in action. See Craig's year-end wrap-up post here.

Now, as we look ahead to 2026, we’re setting our sights high. Big goals. Big dreams. And while momentum matters, progress only happens when we plan for the future.

This year, we are continuing to update and upgrade the IDA website—making it easier to navigate and simpler for members to find the information they need. A major focus is the Learning Management System (LMS), which will be fully integrated into the site.
The LMS will streamline certifications and continuing education, reduce manual work behind the scenes, and create a better overall experience for our members. It’s a smart investment—one that lowers expenses while making the IDA more efficient, modern,
and attractive to both current and future members.

Our focus for 2026 is clear:
Reduce expenses. Grow membership. Increase value.

To support these goals, we will closely monitor our finances, pursue new ways to grow membership, expand event sponsorships, significantly increase our presence on social media, and continue extending the IDA’s reach into other countries.

The mission remains simple:
Grow the IDA. Grow our members. Elevate the industry.

I’m not a detailer—and that’s no secret. But I have been working in this industry for almost 30 years. I know this community, and I am fully committed to delivering the strongest possible version of the IDA—because you deserve it.

I’m accessible, and your voice matters. We cannot build an association for you without hearing from you.

Reach out. Share feedback. Get involved. Talk to any of us on the board or volunteer—there’s a place for you here.

Let’s get to work.

Inside the SEMA Show: Where Innovation Meets Car-Nerd Heaven (and Foot Pain You Weren’t Ready For)

By Chad Emerson, CD-SV
Owner/Detailer, CME Shine Auto Detailing
Chair, IDA Tradeshow & Education Committee

SEMA 2025 (Photo Credit: CME Shine Auto Detailing LLC on Facebook)

If you’ve never been to the SEMA Show, imagine dropping every automotive obsession you’ve ever had into one giant Vegas convention center, wiring it with caffeine, and unleashing 160,000 car-crazy people inside. That’s SEMA. It’s the industry’s Super
Bowl, Oscars, and Black Friday sale rolled into one—minus the doorbusters, plus way better paint finishes. This year was absolutely wild in the best way.

SEMA Pro Tip #1: Plan Your Attack or Get Eaten Alive

SEMA is massive—like “you could lose a grown adult in the South Hall and never see them again” massive. If you show up without a plan, you’ll spend half the day wandering around wondering where your life went wrong.

Before the show, map out the booths you don’t want to miss. Circle the brands you follow, the tools you want to test, and the coatings you want to see in action. It’s the only way to make the most of your time and avoid that day-three panic when you realize
you haven’t even made it to the West Hall yet.

The IDA: Relationships That Actually Matter

IDA Meet & Greet at SEMA (Photo Credit: Davy Tyburski)

One of the biggest highlights for me this year was the people. Being involved with the IDA—especially on the Tradeshow and Education Committee—has opened the door to meeting professionals from every corner of the industry.

At SEMA, those relationships come to life. Every aisle has someone you’ve collaborated with, learned from, or followed online. It’s like a reunion, but instead of awkward small talk, you’re comparing polishers and arguing about which coatings actually
    live up to their marketing.

Tools & Tech: The Candy Store for Detailers

SEMA 2025 (Photo Credit: CME Shine Auto Detailing LLC on Facebook)

The new tools and tech did not disappoint. From polishers with smoother torque and better balance to pads that finish like glass, this year felt like Disneyland for detailers.

And the inspection lights? Brutally honest. Bright enough to expose every last secret your clear coat has ever tried to hide. If you love equipment, SEMA is both heaven and a major threat to your savings account.

SEMA Pro Tip #2: Bring Two Pairs of Shoes

You will walk miles every single day. Rotating shoes is the only thing keeping your feet from staging a full rebellion by day two. This is not optional. This is survival.

SEMA Pro Tip #3: Yes…Put Your Shoes in the Fridge

This one sounds crazy until you try it.

Stick your shoes in the hotel fridge overnight (be courteous to other guests—cover them in a plastic bag first).

Then slide into those cool, chilled shoes the next morning…and your feet will think you’ve ascended to a higher plane of existence. It’s weird. It’s magic. It works. I can’t take credit for this idea, though; it was shared with me by someone else. Thanks—you
    know who you are!

Why SEMA Matters

Beyond the wild builds, celebrity appearances, color-shift wraps, and enough innovation to make your brain smoke, SEMA is about connection and inspiration. You walk away with new ideas, new relationships, and probably a slight limp—but you’re energized
    to take on the future.

Bottom Line

SEMA isn’t just a tradeshow. It’s a full-blown experience—chaotic, inspiring, overwhelming, and absolutely worth it.

Plan smart. Network big. Wear good shoes. Refrigerate them like a madman.

And soak in every minute—because the detailing industry is moving fast, and SEMA gives you a front-row seat to the future.

Member Spotlight: Stefaan Depoorter, CD-SV, and Timo Maes, CD-SV

Stefaan Depoorter, CD-SV, is the founder and manager of SD Carcleaning in Roeselare, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Timo Maes, CD-SV, is the founder and manager of
Car Detailing Maes in Meulebeke, Belgium. Keep reading to learn more about how they each got started in the profession, how they first connected, and why they decided to get involved with
    the IDA.

-----

"Our story began about two years ago, when a friend and client asked me to train Timo as a detailer. After some persuasion, I decided to accept, and not long after, we scheduled our first training session.

Timo was then a young 18-year-old student with a degree in IT. A true car enthusiast, he knew every Porsche model and make perfectly, but had no detailing experience. So, we started from scratch, but it soon became clear that Timo was incredibly driven and eager to learn.

During the many hours of training and hands-on work together, I noticed that he picked up knowledge and techniques incredibly quickly and achieved fantastic results. His enthusiasm was infectious, and we gradually grew into a strong team.

After a year of intensive training, I introduced Timo to the board of IDA Belgium, of which I am also a member. There, he was welcomed with open arms and further mentored by our RIT Collin Joos and at the ACC Academy training center. In September, during our certification exams, we felt Timo was ready to take on the challenge. And with success: he passed with flying colors, becoming one of the youngest CD-SV in Europe, an achievement we, as a team and as a board, are extremely proud of.

Today, we are proud to say that thanks to our strong teamwork and shared passion, we have already worked on many wonderful projects. This collaboration across generations demonstrates how knowledge, experience, and innovation can strengthen each other.

We hope to further expand our collaboration in the future, grow our business even further, and above all: Never Stop Learning!"

Stefaan Depoorter, CD-SV, and Timo Maes, CD-SV

International Detailing Association (IDA): Tell us a bit about yourselves.
Stefaan Depoorter (SD): My name is Stefaan Depoorter, CD-SV, and I founded SD Carcleaning ten years ago. Before that, I spent 25
years working in a body shop as a vehicle preparer and spray painter. That experience provided a solid foundation for my current work in detailing, where my expertise lies primarily in vehicle paint systems. I also provide professional training in
    sanding and paint repair techniques.
In addition, I specialize in surface restoration of leather, fabric, and plastics. Naturally, I also offer interior treatments and coating applications.

In 2022, I achieved my IDA Certified Detailer-Skills Validated (CD-SV) certifications, which I had the honor of receiving in person from one of my industry inspirations, Mike Phillips, CD-SV, WC, RIT, during his two-day visit to Belgium.

Furthermore, I am a trainer for PRS-Expert UV-Curing (BE/FR), a revolutionary UV-cured paint repair system. I also provide training at ACC Academy and am accredited by several well-known detailing brands.

Stefaan Depoorter, CD-SV, and Mike Phillips, CD-SV, WC, RIT

Timo Maes (TM): I started my business about two years ago and was introduced to Stefaan through a mutual acquaintance. Under his mentorship, I completed numerous professional training sessions to refine my skills and reach a higher
level of craftsmanship. Through continuous learning and dedication, I quickly advanced within the industry. Two years later, I proudly became [one of] the youngest IDA Certified Detailers-Skills Validated (CD-SV) in Europe.

IDA: How did you get into the detailing industry?
SD: In my previous job, I spent many years polishing and finishing vehicles, though we only worked with rotary machines
back then. That sparked my curiosity and motivation to learn how to achieve better, safer, and more refined results. Over time, that curiosity evolved into a passion for detailing and a drive to master the craft.

TM: From a young age, I washed my father’s company vans every week. That’s how my passion for detailing began—soon I started properly cleaning his personal car as well, and it quickly became a weekly routine. Before long, I was detailing
vehicles for friends and family, and what started as a hobby naturally evolved into a professional career when I decided to register my own business.

Timo Maes, CD-SV

IDA: Tell us your company’s story.
SD: SD Carcleaning was born out of a passion for vehicles and a desire to bring out the very best in every project I touch. Over the past ten years, the company has grown
into something beyond what I ever imagined. I’m my own boss, I can share my knowledge and experience through training, and I get to work on dream cars I could never afford myself. To me, this doesn’t feel like work—it’s a privilege.

IDA: In what products or services does your company specialize?
SD: In addition to general services such as polishing, coating, and interior cleaning, I specialize in surface damage repair on paint,
leather, fabric, and plastics, as well as advanced paint correction.

TM: Our company works exclusively with premium brands such as Gtechniq, Innova Car, and 3D. We specialize in paint correction, ceramic coatings, and Paint Protection Film (PPF) installation. In addition, we offer professional mobile washing
services, ensuring every vehicle receives top-tier care wherever our clients are located.

IDA: What do you think is the most important factor to being successful in the detailing industry?
SD: Differentiate yourself! Offer something unique in addition to your core services—whether it’s
leather repair, PPF, spot repair, or paint restoration. I also believe in the power of collaboration between detailers; by combining different areas of expertise, we can deliver a complete and professional service to our clients.

TM: For me, true success in the detailing industry means maintaining a consistently full schedule with loyal, returning clients who trust and appreciate your work. Satisfied customers are the foundation of sustainable growth.

IDA: Are there any awards, certifications, or accomplishments you’d like to share with us?
SD: Over the past twelve years, I’ve earned around twenty certifications that I’m proud of. The most meaningful
ones include my IDA CD-SV certification, my PRS-Expert trainer certification, my INNOVACAR accreditation, and my role as a trainer at ACC Academy.

IDA: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
SD: Surround yourself with people who are better than you—and learn from them.

IDA: What tips do you have for new and experienced detailers?
SD: For new detailers: Stay humble, choose a specialty, follow training from experienced professionals, and aim to become the best at what
you do. Investing in yourself always pays off.

For experienced detailers: You’re never too old to learn. Share your knowledge with the next generation.

IDA: Funniest business moment?
SD: Years ago, I was sanding scratches on a front bumper and suddenly realized I was sanding on the PPF instead of the paint! The customer had forgotten to mention
that the front of his second-hand car had been protected with Paint Protection Film.

TM: Attending international training sessions with the Innova Car group was both educational and unforgettable. Spending the days learning new techniques, sharing good food in the evenings, and enjoying great company afterwards—it
was the perfect balance of professionalism and camaraderie.

IDA: Why did you decide to join the IDA?
SD: I joined the IDA to obtain my CD-SV certification, to gain and share knowledge, and to become part of a network of professionals who share the same passion and
    ambition for excellence in detailing.

TM: Stefaan introduced me to the IDA, and from the moment he explained what it represented, I was immediately convinced. I recognized that joining the IDA would not only be a valuable step for my personal development, but also a strong
asset for the growth and credibility of our business.

IDA: How has your involvement with the IDA impacted your business and career?
SD: The IDA has definitely helped me move forward. I see it as a valuable tool—one that you get the most out of when you actively
engage with it. Being a member has strengthened both my professional image and my credibility, not only with clients but also within the detailing community. The “I” in International Detailing Association carries real weight—clients recognize it as
a mark of trust and quality.

Beyond that, the IDA has connected me with passionate professionals around the world. The exchange of knowledge and experiences is incredibly valuable—you keep learning, discover new techniques, and stay up to date with the latest products and trends
    in the industry.

On a personal level, it has motivated me to keep raising the bar, share my expertise, and contribute to the professionalization of our craft. I proudly display the IDA logo on my business cards, uniforms, social media, and company vehicle—it represents
quality, expertise, and passion for the art of detailing.

There’s something magical about this time of year. With the holidays quickly approaching and the promise of a new year on the horizon, the season carries a spark that feels impossible to ignore. For those of us in the northern hemisphere currently in
the midst of autumn, maybe it’s the crisp air, the golden light…or maybe it’s the satisfying crunch of leaves underfoot as I walk with my little boy through our local nature reserve.

But beyond the beauty of the season, autumn brings something else—a wave of energy, connection, and truly incredible events for our detailing community.

Back in October, Global SV Week was nothing short of electrifying. The enthusiasm and participation we saw across the globe filled our feeds and our spirits with IDA pride. One moment that stood out to me personally? A young gentleman in Belgium, one
of the youngest in Europe, stepping up to take and pass his exams. What an achievement! And he wasn’t alone. Congratulations to everyone who earned their certifications, and a heartfelt thank you to our Recognized Independent Trainers. Your dedication
continues to elevate the standards of our industry and inspire professionals around the world. Save the date for the next Global SV Week (the first of two, starting in 2026!), April 13–19.

Next came SEMA. Although I couldn’t make it out this time, the photos, messages, and reactions made it clear: I missed one incredible IDA Meet & Greet! From an outstanding turnout to handing out nearly 200 special edition IDA t-shirts, the energy
was off the charts. The feedback on the event and on the IDA as an organisation has been phenomenal. Thank you to everyone who showed up, supported, and represented our amazing detailing community—YOU ROCK!

If you haven’t already marked your calendar, consider this your personal invitation. Our next IDA Town Hall is coming up, and trust me—you’ll want to be there. We launched these
Town Halls to bring leadership and members together in a meaningful way. They’re your space to:

✨ Connect directly with IDA leaders
✨ Hear important updates
✨ Contribute to discussions shaping the future of our association

This upcoming session will cover:

Major achievements from the year

Updates on ongoing projects

What’s ahead as we look toward 2026

These gatherings are some of the most impactful events of the entire year, and I truly hope to see you there.

We’ve accomplished a tremendous amount together so far, but we’re not done. There are still key projects to complete and more milestones to cross before we turn the calendar to a brand new year (and look ahead to MTE 2026!).

Autumn reminds us of change, momentum, and the beauty of progress. And this community? You embody that spirit every single day.

Let’s finish the year strong, focused, inspired, and united.

Here’s to the season, the successes, and the incredible journey ahead. 🍂✨

Whoa, what a September!

Firstly, I’d like to thank all of our incredible members who hosted Meet & Greets as part of our very first IDA Meet & Greet Week. It was amazing to see so many detailing professionals come together all over the world—sharing experiences, building connections,
and strengthening our global community. The success of this initiative is proof of the passion and dedication that defines our industry.

On the 9th of September we had another really good Town Hall meeting, where I shared the progress and updates on the work the IDA is doing. We are committed to bringing these on a quarterly basis to keep you informed. These sessions are your chance to
connect directly with the IDA leadership team, hear important updates, and ask questions about the future of our association. These open conversations are vital to keeping our organization transparent, innovative, and member-focused. Keep an eye on
your inbox for the upcoming Q4 official invite and details.

Hey IDA Detailers,

With the end of August comes the end of the summer as we usually know it. With many of us well into our plans for the winter period, others see this as the slowest season. I, for one, love this season as it allows opportunity to explore trainings and growth. Not to mention it’s the countdown to MTE! I can’t tell you how much that excites me!!!!

I’m excited to share that the IDA continues to make great progress toward our goals, thanks to the dedication and passion of our global community. More on these goals will be shared in our Q3 Town Hall Meeting. Don’t worry if you can’t make it; you can catch the recording in the webinar library.

One exciting milestone we’re especially looking forward to is the very first International Meet & Greet Week, with events happening all around the world. This will be an incredible opportunity to connect, learn, and celebrate our industry together. I can’t wait to see the photos and stories that come from these gatherings! Don’t forget to tag us on your social media feeds!

Don’t forget, if you are attending SEMA, then our Meet and Greet event is on Tuesday evening. Come down and network with fellow industry professionals. Grab a drink, play some games, and, most of all, have a blast!

One last reminder—IDA Awards nominations are open through November 9! The detailing industry is powered by passion, innovation, and excellence—let's celebrate the standouts who make it shine!

With so much happening, it’s safe to say the months ahead will be full of energy, growth, and connection. Whether you’re joining us online, meeting face-to-face, or simply cheering us on from afar, your involvement is what makes our community so special. Here’s to closing out the year with momentum and making every opportunity count—I can’t wait to see what we achieve together!

Member Spotlight: Mike Ryan

Mike Ryan is the Owner/Operator of Mike's Marine Care in Harrison Township, Michigan, United States. He has been in the industry for more than 30 years and is excited to get active
on an IDA committee. He is working toward becoming a Certified Detailer, with ambitions to one day become a Recognized Independent Trainer. Last year, he was an IDA Awards finalist in the Specialty Technician of the Year category.

International Detailing Association (IDA): How did you get into the detailing industry?
Mike Ryan (MR): I started over 30 years ago—back when “detailing” meant grabbing a buffer and hoping for the best.
One correction job led to another, and before I knew it, I was the guy getting called when everyone else gave up. I’ve always been hands-on, and I never stopped learning.

IDA: Please tell us your business’s story.
MR: Mike’s Marine Care started as a one-man operation and remains that way by choice. I'm known for bringing boats back from the dead—specializing in gelcoat correction,
marine coatings, and high-gloss transformations. I don’t do fluff-and-buff; I do real correction with measurable results. I opened a new shop in Harrison Township, Michigan, where I also offer detailing for autos, RVs, and even aviation. My girlfriend
Nichole and our dog Calypso are the only crew I trust.

IDA: In what products or services does your company specialize?
MR: Gelcoat correction, ceramic and graphene coatings, dry sanding, marine PPF, cushion and trim coatings, shrink wrapping, and pickup/delivery
by land or sea. If it’s oxidized or neglected, I bring it back—and protect it right.

IDA: What do you think is the most important factor to being successful in the detailing industry?
MR: Consistency. Show up, do the work right, and don’t cut corners—even when no one’s watching.

IDA: Are there any awards, certifications, and/or accomplishments that you or your business have earned and would like to share with us?
MR: My best accomplishment is getting and staying sober since
January 17, 2020. Business-wise, I'm certified with Starke, IGL, Angelwax, Onyx, Undrdog, and Kovalent Coatings. I’m proud to be a member of the IDA and The Detailers of the Round Table.

IDA: What is the best advice you ever received?
MR: Build a life you don’t need to escape from.

IDA: What tips do you have for the new detailer? For the experienced detailer?
MR: For the new detailer: Train hard, stay humble, and don’t chase trends—chase results. For the experienced one: Keep training.
There’s always something new to learn, or bad habits to unlearn.

IDA: What's your funniest business moment?
MR: A client told me the boat was at the marina—I showed up, grabbed the boat, and brought it to the shop. Turns out…wrong boat. So, yeah, I now double-check the
name AND registration before launching a recovery mission.

IDA: Why did you decide to get involved with the IDA?
MR: I opened my new shop and realized being part of the IDA was more than just another sticker on the door. It tells my clients I’m serious, and it gives
me a seat at the table to help shape the marine side of this industry.

IDA: How has your involvement with the IDA affected your business and your career?
MR: It’s added credibility, networking, and brought me into circles of pros who give a damn. That alone has pushed me to
elevate everything I do—and opened doors I didn’t know existed.

Automechanika Birmingham and ShineTime Luxury Detail Expo Event Recaps

What does the IDA have in common with Beyoncé? Unfortunately, not much. But like Queen Bey, who recently took her Cowboy Carter Tour from London to Houston, we also recently found ourselves both across the pond at Automechanika Birmingham in the United
Kingdom and at ShineTime Luxury Detail Expo in Houston, Texas.

On the U.K. side of things, we had representation from our own royalty of sorts at Automechanika Birmingham. 2025 IDA President Craig Brigham, CD-SV, MC, along with IDA Board Member Dave Reed, CD-SV (who was there representing the Professional Valeters
& Detailers Trade Association), staffed the IDA stand and gave several presentations throughout the tradeshow, providing great intercontinental visibility for our organization at the event.

Meanwhile, stateside, we also were enjoying the first ShineTime Luxury Detail Expo held in Houston, Texas. There were several educational sessions presented by IDA members. The IDA Booth was staffed by Kirby Thomson, CD-SV, and SV testing was provided
onsite by Bob Wrasman, CD-SV, RIT. It was awesome connecting and building relationships with our partners in the aviation and luxury detailing industries and we are looking forward to continuing to strengthen those connections. (Looking for another
resource on aviation detailing? Check out our recent webinar on aviation detailing dos and don'ts presented by Josh Hernandez, founder of the Aviation Detailing Association, who
    put on Shine Time Expo!)

Remember, SEMA 2025 is right around the corner (and sponsorship opportunities are available now)! Then, after that, believe it or not, Mobile Tech Expo 2026 won't be too far behind (stay tuned for our call for speakers, coming soon). Be sure to check out our events calendar to stay up
to date with all our upcoming tradeshows, certification events, webinars, and much more.

President's Letter – June 2025

Prefer to read through these updates instead? No worries, catch up below!

Welcome to this month's edition of the Detail Dialogue! I'll comb through the topics below that you can expect shortly, but let's do a run through of what's been happening in the IDA over the last month.

So, we did the all-chapter leadership meeting. We do these once a quarter, where we get all the chapters together and they basically give us an update on what's been going on within the chapters around the world. It was a bit of a later call this quarter
(I think it was like 10 or 11:00 my time at night to get on board with chapters in different time zones). It was really good to hear those updates, and I'll probably be sharing some more of that within the future.

We then did our members Q&A. So, again, every quarter we have a new members Q&A, which is open to all the membership. If you have questions around your membership or you want to come and ask the leadership team or the management team, whether you have
    questions about how to get things on the website. It's basically an hour session where you can come on and ask all of your questions that you've got about the IDA in an open honest forum. There's no such thing as a stupid question. It's a good community;
no one's going to judge you. Just come on and ask all things IDA-related. The next one is coming up in September. If you look in the IDA Facebook portal there is already an event there; go on sign up and then you won't forget about it.

We then did the second IDA town hall and once again we've had some fantastic feedback on that. That's where I gave a six-month update on what's been going on from January to June,
    all the progress we've been making within the committees. If you didn't join us for that and you want to catch up on that feel free to go on to the IDA website, it should be on the webinar library;
you can go on there, listen to it while you're working, put your headphones in and listen to the updates there. Again, these are really important for you, the membership. We – Shad, Meghan, and I – put these on for you to come to us and tell us the
issues that are going on and give us your feedback. We open it up for for questions and it's your time to share your vision on the membership. We're always open in our emails and messages, but if you want to share it publicly then those are the places
to definitely do it. The next one of those will be in September; look out for that date and that event coming on the socials and emails very shortly.

During the town hall I did announce – and you may have seen this on the IDA Facebook groups – that the board last year decided to take the management side of the IDA (so ADS who does all our fantastic job of doing all our management of the association)
to basically benchmark that and take it out for request for approval or tender. So, to basically look to make sure we're getting the best value for money for our membership and to make sure that we're providing the services to you as members in the
best way possible for the future. This is a great time to kind of look where we're going to head into the future. Does what we have at the moment meet our current needs? Do we need to alter things? That's not to say we'll alter the the company as
such but you know going out there and seeing what's out there may just bring us some ideas or whatever to alter what we currently have. We are looking for volunteers from the membership to come and review some of the documentation that we've got already
before we go out looking for those bidders. If you want to give your feedback on those and basically help shape the IDA of the future, then please do message me, email me, or contact Barry Theal. The two of us are putting that together, but Barry's
mainly focusing on the membership part so please do contact us for that. It's really important.

Then there's the website. This has been a massive project, but it's getting towards a decision point now where hopefully in the next couple of weeks and by the end of July when we do this next update I can bring you the decision, but we're just at the
moment listing all the applications that have been reviewed and basically looking at picking one based on cost, performance, and the features, so that's where we are at the moment. I would expect within the next month or so we can announce where we're
    going.

I just want to touch on a bit about community. You may have seen I did a live video in the IDA group last week where a number of members had reached out just basically not in a great place, and I just want to just make sure that people realize that and
just remember that the IDA is a massive community of like-minded people and it doesn't matter where you are in the world there is always somebody out there that can help you with any issue that you're going through, whether that's you're working
on a car and you come across something or maybe you've just had a bad day of business and you just want to let off some steam, the IDA community is full of detailers, suppliers, just amazing people that can help you through that, so don't be alone.
There are people there. Let's help support one another and let's grow this industry together. I just really want to make sure that people remember that because that's really important.

Just a few things about what's down below in the Detail Dialogue. We have the member spotlight from Chad who's at CME Shine Auto Detailing in Iowa. Go
check that out. He's recently joined the tradeshow and education committee and has shared his information with us regarding his business, what he gets out of the IDA , really awesome, go check that out.

We announced the Portugal Chapter, who are our brand new chapter and they're already getting things underway. They had their board call at the end of June with some some great goals
coming out of that, which I know the team are wanting to share with you in the coming months, so look out for that. That's another chapter that's up and coming so if you're a chapter around the world, watch out because Portugal is coming for you.

There's an education article from Davy, the CEO at Big Money Detailer, looking at improving cash flow through
effective expense management in auto detailing, so if you're unsure about pricing and things like that, go check that article out, it's really good. Even if you've been in business for years, just check it out, you never know, small adjustments can
probably make you just that extra few dollars.

Also, take a look at the events that have been going on. So, we had the Shine Time Expo in Houston, AutoMechanika
Birmingham, which I went to, which was fantastic meeting lots and lots of people. It did look like the Shine Time Expo was a fantastic event for the first event that there was. Unfortunately I couldn't get out there because it was the same week as
AutoMechanika Birmingham but that looked amazing and I'm hoping both of those events are going to happen again and be as successful in the future. Congratulations and thank you to everybody who volunteered at both of those events from an IDA point
of view to spread the word about what we're doing to the industry.

Also, there's the announcement of the IDA photo contest that's live, so if you want to be part of that then check out the information below.

Finally, before we wrap this thing up, I just want to say if you have any feedback on this type of newsletter, whether it's me doing a video, whether you prefer me writing, at the bottom of the newsletter email, there is a link and it's a little survey just asking how we can make this better for you, and the marketing team are wanting this information because we want to bring the information that's best to you – what you want at the right time in the right format. So if
you have any feedback, please go drop it in the survey.

Until next month, I'll catch you soon! Look after yourselves and let's go and earn some money!

International Detailing Association (IDA): How did you get into the detailing industry?
Chad Emerson (CE): I've always had a passion for keeping my vehicles in great condition. We bought an acreage in 2021
and built a shop on the property for me to do my own service and detailing. After a few months of helping friends clean their cars, we decided why not do this on the side to make some extra money. After a year of training with various individuals
in the industry and being unhappy with my job of 22 years, we decided to go full time. Since going full time, I had the pleasure of getting to know Josh Pierce who has been an amazing asset to our growth and my knowledge. I hope to one day return
    the honor to other detailers.

IDA: Please tell us your business’s story.
CE: I am committed to return the highest quality work I can. I put my heart into every vehicle I touch; if it has MY name on it, anything else is unacceptable.
I am truly quality over quantity. I hope to one day be considered one of the best in my area.

IDA: In what products or services does your company specialize?
CE: I love to do paint correction and coatings. Seeing customers smile when they see the end result is what fuels my passion!

IDA: What do you think is the most important factor to being successful in the detailing industry?
CE: Being true to yourself, and earning the trust and respect of my customers, by being honest and upfront
    with them.

IDA: Are there any awards/certifications/accomplishments that you or your business have earned and would like to share with us?
CE: I am proud to be a CD and SV with the IDA. I have certification
with Adam's Polishes for paint correction and ceramic coatings, P&S Inspiration ceramic coatings, advanced paint correction with Detailing Pros, and a Revivify coating certification. Our business was awarded a Community Votes Gold Winner in auto
detailing for our area in 2025.

President's Letter – Spring 2025

IDA Meet and Greet hosted by the IDA Mexico Chapter at The Lab Polanco in Mexico City, Mexico in conjunction with Expo Detail Mexico on Saturday, May 3, 2025

We’re in the heart of detailing season – and it’s showing!

For many of our members around the world, things are picking up fast. Here in the UK, my own business has seen a major surge in recent weeks – and I know many of you are feeling the same momentum. But if things seem slower on your end, don’t go it alone.
Reach out to the community. That’s the power of the IDA – connection, support, and shared success.

It’s been amazing to see so many posts from Meet and Greet events happening across the globe, along with a wave of certification events underway. It’s inspiring! Keep that energy
going – tag us in your social media posts and help spread the word. The more people see what we’re doing, the stronger we grow.

I’m often told the public doesn’t always know what the IDA is. But here’s proof that’s changing. Just a couple of weeks ago, I stopped by a dealership for some warranty work, 70 miles from home. Wearing my work gear with IDA patches, I was approached
by two complete strangers. Both had chosen IDA Certified Detailers for their vehicles. One of them even said he used the Detailing Nearby website to find a pro and chose them because of
their certifications. That’s the impact we’re making. So always take time to explain to clients why the IDA matters – and make sure you’re listed on Detailing Nearby (edit your profile here)!

Also, a big shoutout to Barry Theal, CD-SV, RIT, who’s been absolutely crushing it on the podcast front. If you haven’t tuned in yet, you’re missing out. He’s featured some amazing voices
from our industry and has more exciting guests on the way.

Finally, mark your calendars: June 12th is our next IDA Town Hall. Registration will be opening soon, and you won’t want to miss it. I’ll be giving a mid-year
update and sharing some key info you’ll definitely want to hear.
Until then – stay connected, stay motivated, and most importantly…

Stay tuned and get detailing!

— —

¡Estén atentos y empiecen a detallar!

International Detailing Association (IDA): How did you get into the detailing industry?
Chris Robertson (CR): I started in the detailing industry in the early 2000s with Car Brite as a factory route driver

Manager for Auto Magic and an RIT. I decided to return to my direct sales and training roots with DSI Automotive. I currently live in Apple Valley, MN with my wife Sarah.

IDA: Why did you decide to get involved with the IDA?
CR: I decided to get involved with the IDA while at Impact. I saw it as a way to get into quality continuing education and help our customers elevate

Andrew Haney, CD-SV, RVC, RIT, is a professor and faculty director for the automotive technology repair program at Bakersfield College in Bakersfield, California, United States. He is also the 2025 Chair of the IDA Membership Committee. We recently had
a chance to speak to Andrew and find out more about his detailing journey.

International Detailing Association (IDA): How did you get into the detailing industry?
Andrew Haney (AH): I owned and operated my own business in high school as a detailer 30+ years ago and then came back
to it five years ago as a hobby for personal friends.

IDA: Please tell us your business's story.
AH: I teach automotive technology repair at a local community college. Many students would ask if we had a detailing class or if they could wash their cars in the
wash bay at the college campus. Another professor and I decided we should investigate the opportunities of a professional detailing class/course offering. We connected with Jason Rose, CD-SV, RIT, of RUPES, and, from that point forward, we have
grown our detailing program at the community college. We now have two courses for workforce development with a certificate offering from the college, and we provide the opportunity to become IDA-certified. My business in the detailing world is education
    about the industry.

IDA: In what products or services does your company specialize?
AH: Automotive and Marine Detailing. We’re working to expand into wrap installation and care and maintenance.

IDA: What do you think is the most important factor to being successful in the detailing industry?
AH: Education about business and all areas of the automobile, boat, or whatever you are working on. Always
be willing to learn new skills and about new products.

IDA: Are there any awards/certifications/accomplishments that you or your business have earned and would like to share with us?
AH: ASE Master Certified, L1 Certified, C1, P1, and many others. IDA CD-SV,
    RVC, and RIT.

IDA: What is the best advice you ever received?
AH: "Remember who you are and what God expects you to be." — Thomas S. Monson

IDA: What tips do you have for the new detailer? For the experienced detailer?
AH: New detailers, jump in with all you have, learn your local, state, and Federal “National” laws. Get insurance, and don’t
be afraid to get involved in committees or task forces. You will make great friends, meet amazing people, and extend your network and knowledge. "Knowledge is power; you did not know something until you learned it." Learn all you can and engage in
    the learning process.

IDA: Why did you decide to get involved with the IDA?
AH: The opportunity to network with and learn from the best in the detailing industry worldwide.

IDA: How has your involvement with the IDA affected your business and your career?
AH: Being a part of the IDA has changed how I see detailing both as a business and a hobby. It has opened my eyes to all
the opportunities for education and for business. Not to mention I have met a LOT of really good people running a lot of really good companies.
