A week—a mere seven days—is simply not enough time to celebrate the amazing industry we call our own. With the global scale of the IDA, it is practically impossible for everyone to schedule Meet & Greets within just one week, a noble feat we aimed to accomplish for our inaugural Meet & Greet Week last September. While many participated that week, we wanted to make it even easier for even more detailers to take part. So, for our follow-up event this year, we decided to extend the celebration to an entire month, throughout all of April!

A Home Page that is Ready for the Show Room Floor

You'll notice a sleeker design with more eye-catching images, featuring some of our very own members' photo contest submissions—the IDA is all about you, after all!

We've also put our resources front and center, so you can more easily find what many of you come to the website to do. We've also simplified the website's navigational menu and footer, keeping only the most essential items at your fingertips.

Another new exciting feature—take a look in the upper left corner and you'll see a language dropdown menu. You can now choose from over 100 languages to translate all text throughout the website! (Note: translations are automatically generated using machine translation technology and have not been reviewed or verified. Please excuse any errors.)

One more way we are highlighting the International aspect of our name? We have brought our Chapters to the forefront! Now website visitors can quickly see the true global scale of our organization.

We hope these improvements change your website experience for the better—as well as your overall interactions with the IDA. But don't worry—this is only the beginning. There are many more improvements to come with phase 2 of our website overhaul, including a better joining experience for new members, a more cohesive experience for logged-in members, and a more modern look and feel throughout subpages. IDA I.Q. is your new hub for certification exams—including Certified Detailer (CD) and specialty—and education, such as webinar recordings for continuing education credits (now available, with more to be added) and live webinars (coming soon).

Webinar recordings for non-Certified Detailers (or CDs not looking for credits/those who already earned credits via the live webinars) will still continue to be available via the members-only webinar recording archive.

Explore content in the LMS—browse by language, category, exam type, webinar topic; you can even search by keyword—and when you're ready to make a purchase, you'll be redirected to the main member website to checkout.

The best part is that the learning management system is all integrated with our main member website, the-ida.com, so you can use your current login credentials to sign in, and when you earn credits through IDA I.Q., they will automatically populate in your certification journal. Plus, no more waiting for exam access! When you order exams through the store on the main member website, just return to IDA I.Q., synchronize your purchased content, and instantly begin your exams—on-demand, on your schedule, and on your preferred device since it's all mobile-friendly!

Important: If you ordered and/or began taking your online certification exams (either CD or specialty) prior to Friday, March 27, 2026, you will CONTINUE TAKING THE EXAMS VIA THE MAIN MEMBER SITE, NOT IDA I.Q. Use the exam access links previously sent to you.

At this time, there are no changes to the Certification Maintenance process. Certified Detailers at all levels still need to log in to their certification journal before their expiration date to ensure proper input of their credits (which will automatically populate, if credits are earned through IDA I.Q.) and manually select and pay their correct Certification Maintenance fee.

A Recognized Independent Trainer (RIT) is an individual recognized by the IDA as qualified to offer quality detailing training and that demonstrates the needed skill set to proctor IDA certification exams. RITs have proven to industry peers that they understand multi-faceted knowledge of techniques, terminology, and chemistry and its relation to detailing. Their RIT endorsement does not make them a more competent detailer, rather someone recognized as a detailing trainer to others in the profession. An RIT is someone to whom fellow industry professionals can reach out for accurate information. They assist others in becoming the professionals that a customer would want to entrust with some of their largest investments.

RITs are held to the highest level of integrity and professionalism and are expected to support others in the detailing industry, the organization, and its certification programs. RITs must strictly adhere to the IDA Code of Conduct and be a prime example of ethical conduct to others. The role of the RIT within the IDA is to conduct certification testing for Certified Detailers (CD) and Skills Validated (SV) candidates and to be a resource for individuals seeking detailer training. "My name is Carlos Galan, and I’m proud to call Central Oregon home. I come from a background where hard work, integrity, and pride in what you do weren’t optional, they were expected. That mindset has shaped not only who I am as a person, but how I approach every vehicle, every client, and every opportunity to grow in this industry.

Detailing, to me, has never been 'just washing cars.' It’s a craft. A discipline. A profession that deserves respect and standards. I joined the International Detailing Association because I believe in elevating our industry, holding ourselves accountable, continuing our education, and setting the bar higher for what professional detailing should look like. The IDA represents credibility, community, and continuous improvement, and I wanted to be part of something bigger than myself.

After obtaining my CD-SV, WC, becoming a Recognized Independent Trainer (RIT) felt like the natural next step. I’ve always believed that knowledge grows when it’s shared. Since I am bilingual in Spanish and English this would allow me to teach more students. Reaching RIT status isn’t about a title, it’s about responsibility. It’s about helping other detailers shorten their learning curve, avoid costly mistakes, and gain confidence in their skills. I’m passionate about mentoring, teaching best practices, and helping others see that this industry offers real careers, not just side hustles. My true passion is to help young adults coming out of the prison system learn a new trade.

When I’m not in the shop, you’ll usually find me spending time with my family and researching other investment opportunities as I believe in having several streams of income. I enjoy working with my hands, being outdoors, and constantly improving—whether that’s personally or professionally. Even in my downtime, I’m wired to grow. "Hello everyone, this is Angel Moreno, from Venezuela. I entered the world of professional detailing driven by a desire to grow and focus on having a profitable, but above all, respectable business. I've always loved the automotive world, everything from its aesthetics and technological development... but especially knowing that this is an art, not just technique and knowledge. And this is precisely where my other career converges, the one that allowed me to see the world and meet so many people. I've been a professional musician for over 25 years, traveling and performing on stages in many countries. Late last year, the International Detailing Association (IDA) Tradeshow & Education Committee proposed easing the brand neutrality restrictions in place for those seeking to present an IDA Webinar. The IDA Board of Directors approved the decision, and in January 2025, Josh Pierce, CD-SV, MC, RVC, WC, RIT, was the first to present a webinar under the new guidelines on the topic of "Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning with Team P&S." It remains our most highly attended live webinar of all-time and has been our most watched online webinar recording this year. Members can view the upcoming schedule of webinars here, as well as access all currently available webinar recordings in the free archive here.

In the video above, IDA Board Member Shad Stoker, CD-SV, MC, RVC, WC, RIT, explains the benefits of the new webinar policy for operator and supplier members alike. For operators, this means that they will be exposed to a broad variety of topics and brands that they may not have otherwise been under the previous policy, which restricted presenters from mentioning specific brands, tools, or products during their sessions. This may have prevented some potential webinar speakers from presenting if they felt it would be too difficult to educate thoroughly on the topic while having to speak in generalities. Now, operators will be able to learn about the best way to use specific products and techniques and apply it to their business directly from the manufacturers and distributors themselves. For suppliers, the benefit is clear – they will be presenting directly to a group of highly engaged detailing professionals who then in turn may become potential customers.

While the policy still has some restrictions to maintain the educational integrity of IDA Webinars (see the policy listed below in full), it will allow much more flexibility for future presenters. Members have consistently said that webinars are one of the top benefits of their membership, so we are pleased to make them even more beneficial for you moving forward.

On Saturday, July 12, the Southern Africa Chapter of the International Detailing Association (IDA) hosted a vibrant Meet and Greet event that brought together end customers, dealers, and IDA members. The event featured a dynamic rotational session from 9 AM to 3 PM, where various suppliers showcased their expertise and conducted insightful learning sessions. The day was not only educational but also a lot of fun, culminating in the certification of a detailer’s skills on site. The event underscored the commitment to excellence and community within the detailing industry.

As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen and revitalize the Caribbean Chapter of the International Detailing Association (IDA), we are currently refreshing the Chapter Board and are seeking committed individuals who are passionate about advancing the mission of the IDA and supporting the development of the detailing community locally.

Serving on the Chapter Board is a valuable opportunity to:

1. Contribute your time, expertise, and vision to the growth of the Caribbean Chapter
2. Help shape chapter initiatives, events, and outreach programs
3. Build stronger networks across the Caribbean community
4. Represent the Caribbean in broader IDA activities and forums

The IDA 2025 Photo Contest is now open for submissions! Once again, we are offering two categories: 1) General and 2) Before & After. One winner from the General category and four winners from the Before & After category will be chosen. The winning entries will be featured on IDA social media channels, have an interview in The Detail Dialogue newsletter, will be displayed at the IDA Exhibit Booth at Mobile Tech Expo 2026 in Orlando, FL, and will be featured on an episode of the IDA podcast, Inside the IDA! The contest is open to all current IDA members. All photo submissions will be reviewed by the IDA Marketing & Communications Committee, and eligible photos will be put forth to the IDA membership for vote. The photo(s) with the most votes in each category at the end of the voting period will be deemed the winners. Previous winners will not be eligible for submission for three years.

The IDA's 3rd Annual International Educational Day was held on Thursday, April 10, 2025. It was a day of global learning with six speakers, representing four international chapters, presenting educational sessions on a variety of detailing topics in three different languages, including Vietnamese, Spanish, and German.

Representing the IDA Southeast Asia Chapter, Le "Max" Cuong, CD-SV, kicked off the day with a presentation in Vietnamese on the importance of polishing before and after PPF installation. Next, there were back-to-back Spanish presentations: first up – Jose "Orlando" Principe, CD-SV, representing the IDA Caribbean Chapter, discussed strategies to increase customer value and revolutionize your detailing business; followed by Juan Vidrio of the IDA Mexico Chapter presenting on the use of dry steam in automotive detailing.

Lars Pickhardt, CD-SV, began the afternoon sessions on behalf of the IDA Germany Chapter, discussing identification of and care for various leather types. Then, we closed out the afternoon with another pair of back-to-back Spanish sessions. Luis Melgar, CD-SV, RVC, RIT, presented on mobile detailing operations, and Julian Vera, CD-SV, RVC, wrapped up the day with a discussion on RV restoration and ceramic coatings.

While attendance may not have been as high as we had hoped, those who did attend all left having learned valuable lessons from their peers – even in spite of language barriers! While Lars mainly presented in German, he did add in a few English slides, which proved to be very meaningful to attendees such as Katya "Jojo" Vasquez, who gained unexpected insights about leather repair, despite having no understanding of the German language. These types of cross-cultural learning opportunities are one of the reasons membership in the IDA is so powerful.

Looking ahead, we will be re-thinking international webinars to better fit the educational needs of members and Certified Detailers. The Tradeshow & Education Committee and International Chapter Development Committee are already hard at work collaborating on ways to improve educational offerings for international detailers. One idea is to host separate International Education Days focused on different languages throughout the year. If you are a Chapter member or an international detailer, we invite you to share your feedback on what forms of education would be the most valuable to you. After an exciting launch of the IDA RV Certification earlier this year in person at Mobile Tech Expo, we are now pleased to introduce the launch of online exams!

The RV Certification consists of five (5) exams, ten (10) questions each, in these subject areas: 1) General Knowledge; 2) Safety; 3) Terminology; 4) Surfaces; and 5) Detailing Process. Please note: these exams only cover exterior detailing. You need at least an 80% or better to pass each exam.

As with the first two specialty certifications (Watercraft and Motorcycle), you can order the complete set of online exams ($200 for members | $400 for non-members) or individual exams ($50 each for members | $90 each for non-members). Not yet a member? Join the IDA before registering to obtain the member rates. Before registering for the RV Certification, you must have already completed Phase I Certification, having passed the ten written exams, to fulfill the classification of Certified Detailer.

Those who achieve the status of IDA Certified Detailer – RV Certified (CD, RVC) have demonstrated expertise not only as an auto detailer, but also in the dedicated area of Recreational Vehicle (RV) exterior detailing. RV Certified Detailers have exhibited the specific knowledge needed to properly care for various types and styles of Recreational Vehicles, and they understand the intricacies that distinguish RV exterior detailing from other forms of detailing.

At the time of initial launch, the RV Certification is primarily U.S.-based, but the IDA is actively evaluating how the U.S./English version translates internationally to accommodate additional variations. Non-U.S./English versions are on the roadmap for future development ensuring that the RV certification becomes accessible to detailing professionals worldwide.

Volunteer on a committee and be part of the future of the IDA!

IDA’s Board and Committees have planned and strategized in January and February to outline the association’s most important goals and projects for 2025. Goals have been set and committees are hard at work, but we still need your help! Get in on the action and join an IDA committee today. Committees meet virtually via Zoom once per month, and their work is vital to the forward momentum of the association as a whole. Committee leaders are listed below – feel free to reach out if you have any questions about projects, goals, or getting involved. Familiarize yourself with each committee, choose the one that best fits your own expertise and interests, and submit a volunteer interest form today!

Certification Committee

The IDA Certification Committee governs the IDA Certification Program, sets guidelines for certification exam materials and processes, and develops and oversees implementation of new certification phases. Please note: You must be an IDA Certified Detailer to volunteer on this committee.

International Chapter Development Committee
