VIRTUAL EVENT
Free and open to members and non-members.
Since we are not able to get together for our usual IDA education lineup at MTE Orlando this year, we want to make sure that we are giving our members access to the best education in and around detailing and business operation. Join us on February
18th for education about the science behind the polishes you use, how to expand your services to bring in additional revenue, maximizing paint enhancement and protection, how to effectively equip your shop whether you are mobile, fixed, or a large
scale operation, and how to overcome and conquer the walls and obstacles that so many of us have experienced over the last year. Please Note: All sessions will be recorded. While the live event will be open to both members and non-members, the recordings will only be made available to members following the event.
Schedule:

The Evolution of Polishing Science - How Coating Technology Has Inspired Advances in Polishing Technology
Speaker: Jim Lafeber, CD-SV, RT; Dr. Beasley's, Inc
Description: Polishing technology has done a poor job in keeping up with the advances of ceramic coating technology. The shortcomings of many of today's polishes adversely affect protection durability, surface hydrophobicity, and self-cleaning
(The lotus effect). Using an inferior polish formulation often leads to premature coating failure. Polish ingredients (i.e., oils) do not simply wipe off with an IPA solution after they have been embedded by the polishing phase.
The leading manufacturers of polishes have had to reinvent polish formulations to complement ceramic coating products.
The Evolution of Polishing Science presentation will show the professional detailer which polish technology (nanotech versus organic based) is appropriate for the service that you are providing. Detailers will also learn how you can tell if your
polish is compatible with ceramic coatings.
A ceramic coating is different from wax or paint sealants which are organic-based. Organic material deteriorates faster than inorganic based material, which lessens the bonding ability of the ceramic protection. Ceramic nanotechnology is chemically
inert and will not easily breakdown; however, organic residual material from polishes will prevent bonding to the painted surface.
When a coating is applied to a surface which has been properly prepared and is free of silicone and organic material, that surface takes on adhesion properties that are stronger than superglue. Today the weakest link in long term substrate protection
is proper surface preparation.
10:00 am - 11:00 am Central Equipping Your Shop the Right Way
Speaker: Keith Duplessie, CD-SV, MC, RT; Detail Plus
Description: In this session, Keith will discuss how to determine what equipment and tools you need to run your mobile, fixed, or larger scale operation. Know what to buy, how to buy it, and how to financially manage your purchases to
leverage these assets to your advantage operationally and financially.

and negative influences, the impact of being tapped into the IDA, and much more. Leaving 2020 behind and looking into a fresh year in 2021, you won't want to miss this session!
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm Central The 30-Minute Paint Enhancement with Protection: Maximizing One-Step Performance. More Customers! More Profit!
Speaker: Dylan von Kleist; Rupes USA
Description: This an overview of tips and techniques to get the ultimate performance while doing one step paint enhancement procedures. Dylan will show you how to do this with maximum efficiency and quality.

Speaker: Prentice St. Clair, CD-SV, RT; Detail In Progress, Inc
Description: Was your income impacted last year by the pandemic? Some of us had greatly reduced income because we rely solely on revenue from detailing services. In this session, Prentice will talk about what it takes to be a more rounded
“automotive reconditioning” technician. With 22 years of experience teaching and providing multiple services, Prentice can help you understand what it takes to learn and equip yourself to be multi-talented, so that you can dramatically increase
the average ticket price per vehicle.
