Welcome to the Member Spotlight Ernst Dijk Van, President of the IDA Netherlands Chapter and owner of Ernst Car Cleaning
.
`
International Detailing Association (IDA): How did you get into the detailing industry? Ernst Dijk Van (EDV): When I was 14 years old, I used to wash cars on the weekend to make some money. After working as a car technician for
many years, I was not happy. Then the opportunity arrived to begin a detailing shop within an auto part shop. After a year, I was able to open my own building.
IDA: Please tell us your business’s story. EDV: Since I opened my shop, I have formed many relationships with colleagues all over the world. Together with some of my foreign colleagues, I organize workshops in my shop.
I like the variety of detailing cars and teaching the various skills to other upcoming detailers.
IDA: In what products or services does your company specialize? EDV: I specialize in leather restoration. I have focused on developing and expanding this skill set during the past year.
IDA: What do you think is the most important factor to being successful in the detailing industry? EDV: Be honest, deliver quality, and honor existing commitments.
IDA: What is the best advice you ever received? EDV: Follow your own path.
IDA: What tips do you have for the new detailer? For the experienced detailer? EDV: For the new detailer, honor your commitments and join a group so you can learn and gain new information. For the experienced
detailer, keep doing what you're doing, and don't be afraid to reach out to other detailers for advice. 😊
IDA: Funniest Business Moment? EDV: I think it is important to laugh every day, with a colleague or a customer.
IDA: Why did you decide to get involved with the IDA? EDV: It is a worldwide organization where detailers meet each other and exchange their knowledge. This network of members has a lot to offer. I think our entire Netherlands
Chapter can improve ourselves by collaborating with colleagues worldwide.
IDA: How has your involvement with the IDA affected your business and your career? EDV: The Netherlands Chapter joined a few months ago, so it is too early to tell. There is a lot of interest from detailers in our area to participate.
I hope this will help the entire detailing community grow throughout the Netherlands. There will be a CD-SV event this June in Milan with five other colleagues that I am greatly looking forward to.
