Since he was 14 years old patrolling his childhood neighborhood with a bucket and a sponge, Greg Swett has been a car guy — growing up around Detroit during the muscle car era can do that to a boy. Those formative years spent washing his neighbors’ cars for spending money engrained a fascination with both the automobile and detailing that has served him well for the past four decades. In 1985, Swett formed Classic Appreciation as a part-time venture on a shoestring to feed his passion for clean cars and to build a business. It quickly became a full-time obsession. He steadily grew his operation, constantly upgrading both his skill set and his operation’s size. His persistence along with his love for cars and people are the driving force for his success. Thirty-some years ago, hardly anyone knew what “Auto Detailing” was. Greg had to educate almost every potential customer about the benefits of meticulously cleaning and polishing their cars. For many years now, he has increased awareness of detailing services and cultivated goodwill within the community by conducting detailing clinics for local car clubs and public and private organizations. Classic Appreciation World Class Auto Detailing is a team of “car people” who are fanatical about all types of cars and passionate about focusing on the details to delight owners of all types of vehicles. They have detailed well over 170,000 vehicles since the opening of their first shop. While continually improving their facilities over the last 38 years, they have also developed many innovative tools, systems, and procedures that have helped make them and the detailing industry more effective and efficient. They have written procedures and flow charts for each detailing service that each technician follows to ensure consistent, exceptionally high quality, and professional results. Greg is a past president and founding member of the International Detailing Association. Classic Appreciation was voted as the IDA Detail Shop of the Year in 2020. In 2021, Greg was inducted into the IDA Hall of Fame. He also serves as chairman on the Operations Committee for the Concours d'Elegance of America.
