International Detailing Association (IDA): How long have you been with Fortador? Were you a detailer prior to becoming a supplier?
Lars Pickhardt (LP): I have been with this company for 17 years. Was I a detailer? Yes and no. I am a born craftsman. 😊 I've always had something to do with leather repairs.

IDA: What made you switch to becoming a supplier?
LP: It wasn't a conscious decision, it just happened. And now I love it. 

IDA: What type of training does your business offer?
LP: We offer training in the treatment of leather, vinyl, and plastic repairs for the interior of vehicles. We also offer courses in repairing upholstered furniture.

IDA: What are some of your company’s attributes that make you stand out in the industry?
LP: Sustainability, reliability, and always being one step ahead. Also, our products are made in Germany. We are very proud of that. 

IDA: Is there any advice you would give to detailers that may be looking into transitioning to product sales, distribution, or manufacturing?
LP: Take care of and focus on the types of products that fascinate you. If you are enthusiastic you can also inspire and excite your customers. Your customers will not buy a product if they don’t believe you stand behind it. 

IDA: What are some of the struggles your company has overcome to get to where it is today?
LP: Nothing major comes to mind. It's not always about the large issues and situations. Sometimes, it's a lot of little things. These can add up over time. Being diligent helps to get you through them all. 

IDA: Why does your company believe it is beneficial to support the IDA?
LP: We all are stronger in a community. The IDA is the perfect place for the detailing industry to get together with like-minded people. This must be encouraged by each individual, only in this way can it be maintained for a long time.

IDA: As a supplier, what changes would you like to see made in the detailing industry?
LP: I think the industry is great. As a German, I would like the detailing industry in Germany develop in a similar way as it has in the USA.
