Katherine Mayo, CD-SV, RIT, is President of the IDA Caribbean Chapter and Part Owner of UM Distributors Inc, located in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico. We had the pleasure of speaking to her to learn about her journey and her aims for the Caribbean Chapter.

International Detailing Association (IDA): How did you get into the detailing industry? Katherine Mayo (KM): My beginnings in the detailing industry began when I was young and showed an interest in car care.
IDA: Please tell us your business’s story. KM: I am part of the Company Family of the UM Distributors Inc, which was founded in 2004 by Mr. Ulises Mayo (father) and Ulises Jr. Mayo Silvestre (son), who is the current president
of UM Distributors Inc and is a leader in the detailing industry in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Our success was due to the hard work of our products and the trust that two large companies highly recognized worldwide, Rupes and Sonax, gave us.
IDA: In what products or services does your company specialize? KM: We have a wide range of high-quality products that are recognized in the detailing industry. Our company specializes in everything an amateur/enthusiast
or professional detailer needs to carry out an excellent service. We also offer training and training with different brands of the highest quality.
IDA: What do you think is the most important factor to being successful in the detailing industry? KM: Our success is due first to God, and persistence in education has been the key to the success of this company.
IDA: Are there any awards/certifications/accomplishments that you or your business has earned and would like to share with us? KM: Our company has been recognized by Rupes USA, Sonax USA, and P&S Detail for our commitment
to the industry.
IDA: What is the best advice you ever received? KM: The best advice I have received has been from Mr. Alberto Quiroscabrera of Rupes USA, “Just believe in yourself and love what you do, and success will follow!"
IDA: What tips do you have for the new detailer? For the experienced detailer? KM: The best advice I can give to new detailers and professional detailers is to always be at the forefront of education to achieve
training of the highest quality.
IDA: Funniest business moment? KM: My funniest moment was with Jason Rose, CD-SV, RIT, and Alberto Quiroscabrera from Rupes USA. At the Puerto Rico Convention Center at the Racing Expo event, they wrapped me with Pallet
Wrap Paper as if I were a package.
IDA: Why did you decide to get involved with the IDA? KM: Being involved with the International Detailing Association allows me to improve my personal and professional positioning in the industry.
IDA: How has your involvement with the IDA affected your business and your career?KM: The IDA will be of great influence in Puerto Rico. As president of the Caribbean Chapter and part of the UM Distributors team, I aim to influence everyone positively and educationally. Thanks to this new opportunity, our training will have a new focus, empowering the entire detailing industry in Puerto Rico. The Caribbean Chapter plans to be able to hold meetings to share ideas and listen to concerns or suggestions and create work plans for further growth in members in the Caribbean. We hope to help create new opportunities for the benefit and development of all Caribbean Chapter participants.
