IDA Education Sessions IDA Certification Event - Phase I & II (CD-SV) IDA Exhibit Booth IDA Meet & Greet

IDA Education Sessions

Thursday, September 5, 2019

The Science of Coatings
12:45 – 1:35 pm

Presenter: James E. Lafeber, CD-SV, RT

Description: How can you properly explain to your customer that Nano coating is not a sealer, but rather a molecular modification that offers hydrophobic and an easy to clean surface?  How do the Nanoparticles bond physically and chemically to the surface to give it a complete protection against wear, corrosion, and other damaging elements?  What is the difference between just beading and truly long-lasting Nano protection?  This seminar will address these questions and more.

The Importance of Standard Operating Procedures
1:45 – 2:35 pm

Presenter: Prentice St. Clair, CD-SV, RT

Description: Detailing is a systematic activity consisting of a series of individual steps.  These steps should be performed the same way each time for every menu item performed.  Moreover, every detail technician in the shop needs to be performing the same SOPs so that the end result of every detail is consistent.  Having strong SOPs improves efficiency and effectiveness, as well as reducing variability in results.  SOPs include several elements, including equipment, supplies, and chemicals used, as well as techniques and rules of motion.  Determining and documenting your SOPs is critical for the smooth running of your operation.  The SOPs are determined by the menu items and the service elements included in each menu item.  Moreover, SOPs should be designed so that they help technicians achieve the standards for each menu service item.  When SOPs are properly documented, the documentation becomes an excellent training tool for new hires.

Secrets to Creating and Running the Most Successful Detail Business
2:45 – 3:35 pm

Presenter: Jonathan Munsell, CD

Description: In this session, Jonathan shares the key factors he has found to be the determining factors between those business owners that fight to get ahead and those that make it look easy and have great businesses to show for it.  He will walk you through the details of what he has found as a result of owning successful businesses and working side by side with business owners as he helped them build incredible businesses.  Success leaves clues and there are always secrets that those on top don’t always share with the guy working to get ahead.  He will blow the lid off of how to build a successful detailing company and to grow it to provide the income you want and the life you desire.

Friday, September 6, 2019
10:00 am - 4:00 pm (Testing sessions are in two-hour increments.)

The Skills Validated tests represent the four primary categories that each candidate must demonstrate their “hands on” ability to perform.  The detailer must perform each phase of the testing on their own, and meet the minimum proficiency expected in order to pass.  The exam is presented in a scenario-type format to afford the detailer the opportunity to demonstrate the abilities expected of the Advanced Detailing Professional.  The applicant must have already completed Phase I Certification, having passed the 10 written exams, to fulfill the classification of Certified Detailer.  Phase II Skills Validation testing demonstrates hands on skills and in-person testing by an IDA CD-SV, RT (Recognized Trainer) in areas covered in the written exams: Wash Bay/Prep, Interior, Exterior Correction, and Finishing Steps.

Please Note: Before registering for the Skills Validated event, the applicant must have already completed Phase I (CD) Certification, having passed the ten written exams, to fulfill the classification of Certified Detailer.

Attention IDA Skills Validated (SV) and Recognized Trainers (RTs): If you are available to assist with SV testing on Friday, September 6, please contact Prentice St. Clair at 619-701-1100 to volunteer.
