The Business of Motorcycle Detailing

Speaker:

Roman Jimenez, CD-SV, MC; Biketailing Specialties, Inc.

Session Description: In this presentation, Roman will discuss how to successfully add motorcycle detailing to your current detailing business, the importance of developing local networking partners, and how to connect with bikers for this new opportunity.

Speaker Bio: Roman Jimenez embodies the passion needed for motorcycle detailing and the mindset required to turn it into a successful business venture.  With over 35 years of experience in restoration and detailing of motorcycles, Roman has perfected the craft with a wide variety of materials and finishes.  Five years ago, Roman took his detailing passion and combined it with his business experience to start Biketailing Specialties, the most specialized motorcycle detailing and restoration studio in the industry located in South Florida.  IDA has recognized Roman’s expertise by making Biketailing a member of the IDA Founder’s Club.  Roman has been a biker since he was 12 years old, when he became a motorcycle collector and an avid detailer, enjoying customization and show bikes.  Now even his wife and daughters are bikers as well.  Roman studied business administration, specialized in international business, was the VP of a multi-million-dollar department store chain in South America for 8 years, and led private label development that won the AIA’s 2008 Best New Packaging of a Product for Import Cars and Trucks.  He later became President of Termo Diesel Corp, which specialized in hospitality and restaurant equipment.  Roman’s extensive business development and detailing experience has led to a new vision of motorcycle care and restoration.

Speaker Bio: Bruno Basso is an IDA member.  He graduated in Business Administration (FacEPD) Brazil, and post graduated in EMBA Executive Master Business Administration (FGV) Brazil.  As a specialist in the Financial Market, he worked at Itaú Pernsonnalite Bank and Citibank.  He is an entrepreneur, consultant, teacher, and speaker in the areas of business administration, entrepreneurship, and business models.  He is the owner of Delta Pro Custom.

Increase Revenue with a Product Needed to Complete a Detail

Session Description: It is essential to be proactive, forward thinking, and aware of the opportunities of sales, customer service, and added revenue.  Paint chip and scratch repair is needed on 90% of all vehicles.  There are many ways to add on to the sale – make customers love you or develop new relationships.  There is always an opportunity to “skin the cat” at car shows, club event, retail customers, auto spas, or dealerships.

Speaker Bio: Hailing from Northern California, for the past 32+ years  Tony has been in business of building teams, brands, and companies in South Florida.  In partnership with founder Dan McCool, Tony has helped grow Dr. ColorChip into a worldwide brand, with distribution in 11 countries and a myriad of corporate partners and affiliates worldwide.  Tony and Dan, in conjunction with over 1000+ commercial users and industry leaders, have designed some of the most advanced paint, paint chip repair systems, commercial paint systems, and private label packaging in the automotive industry.  Tony is a car collector, philanthropist, sports enthusiast and lives in Palm Beach Gardens, FL with his family.

Speaker Bios: Juan is the owner of ALL Season Detail with more than 20 years of experience in detailing and more than 15 years of experience in the Sales department.  He is also the Instructor of ASD Academy, Detail Warriors Institute.  He is an IDA Recognized Independent Trainer, an IDA Board Member, and a volunteer on the Chapter Development Committee.

Jose is currently working at Symplex USA as The Academy Trainer and Products Developing Technician, with over seven years of detailing experience.  He is the owner of Orlando Principe Detail, where he has had the opportunity to train many Hispanic detailers.  He has a bachelor’s degree in business and economics and over 20 years of experience in sales.

Advanced Stain Removal – Understanding Stains

Session Description: During this session, we will review multiple proper methods to tackle all the stains we may find inside a vehicle and also how to approach stains that we just cannot identify.

Speaker Bio: Tyler Cucchi has worn many hats and held many positions in our industry over his 15 years of experience making him a great fit to help the IDA grow our International Chapters and membership.  His experience spans from being an operator of a detail business, holding multiple positions in the suppliers' segment of our industry that involved helping business owners and detailers solve their problems out in the field, to hosting training classes with many of the best trainers in the industry.  He is currently in the manufacturers' segment of our industry where he continues to support professional detailers and suppliers, spreading the word of the IDA, and now hosts trainings as an RIT primarily in the United States but has had many international professionals attend his trainings as well.  He proudly joined the IDA in 2013 and has been very active on multiple committees before becoming the Chair of the Chapter Development Committee last year.

Session Description: Most detailers are so focused on advancing their skills that they forget to do the other important things required to run a successful business.  There are probably several easy things that you need to be doing today that you are missing!  Ensure you are successful tomorrow by learning these simple tricks.  Join Jason as he shares the secrets learned while growing Chicago Auto Pros Detailing into the successful business it is today.

Speaker Bio: In his 18 years of being a detailer and business owner, Jason Otterness learned a lot of things the hard way.  He has owned three separate detailing businesses, worked in body shops, and managed car washes with plenty of success and failures throughout the years.  Chicago Auto Pros, which he started in 2012 with partner Greg Natonson, has grown into multiple locations with over 50 employees.  That success was driven primarily by the successful YouTube channel which he manages.  The channel also established him as a leader in the industry and paved the way for the launch of their ecommerce business, Car Supplies Warehouse, that sells products that have been tested and proven by his detail shops.  He’s now sharing the invaluable lessons he learned with others through the DetailWise training platform.

Come to our IDA Annual Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony!  Doors open at 5:00 pm with hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar.  The meeting will begin at 5:30 pm.  We will update you on the state of the industry and the IDA, announce the IDA Awards winners, induct the next class of the IDA Hall of Fame, and give you the opportunity to connect one-on-one with other members and industry professionals.  All are welcome to attend!

The IDA is excited for another year at Mobile Tech Expo!  If you are looking for an opportunity to network with fellow detailing professionals and contribute to the IDA community, we would love for you to join us as a volunteer at the IDA Booth.  We need 2-4 volunteers per timeslot.  We also need help with booth takedown once the exhibit floor hours end at 4:00 pm on Saturday, February 3.  Any help with the labor that goes into taking down and repackaging the booth for shipping would be greatly appreciated.  If you are interested in volunteering for any of the following timeslots (all listed in Eastern Time), please contact us at info@the-ida.com.

Phase I - Certified Detailer (CD): 8:00 am – 12:00 pm (Available in English and Spanish)
Watercraft Certification (WC): 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Motorcycle Certification (MC): 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Phase II - Skills Validated (SV): 8:00 am – 4:00 pm (Testing is in two-hour timeslots.  Select your timeslot during registration.)

NOTE: You may NOT register for both Watercraft and Motorcycle exams, as they will be held at the same time during this event.
