President's Letter - November 2018

Here we are, in the midst of another holiday season.  In some areas, shops shut down completely for the next couple of months.  Here in Florida and other warmer climes, we plug on through the winter.  The season can be slow, however, and I encourage those of you who typically experience a lull this time of year to be proactive in keeping your revenue strong.  

Consider, for example, some kind of holiday mailing to all your current customers, thanking them for their continued patronage.  You might also include a holiday special that goes through the end of January.  I suggest offering a free add-on versus a discounted price.

If nothing else, simply reaching out to your current customer base is likely to drum up some business.  A holiday greeting via text or email, and even a round of phone calls will remind your customers that you are around.  Many times, this results in the classic “I was thinking about calling you!”

My main message to those who have a slow season is this—don’t sit around moping!

And now for something completely different . . . we had a great time at SEMA earlier this month.  The IDA Meet and Greet on the first evening of the show was a big success, bringing at least 140 detailers together.  It’s clear that this is a popular event and we will continue with this type of activity at SEMA next year.  Interestingly, there were a number of people who came up to me during the rest of the show with regrets for not being able to attend.  To me, this demonstrates that there is a large presence of IDA supporters at SEMA.

A highlight of SEMA was the opportunity to present IDA member placards to the various IDA Supplier Members who were exhibiting.  Together with Prentice St. Clair, CD-SV, RT, Chair of the IDA Tradeshow and Education Committee, I walked around the North Hall and personally greeted each of these exhibitors and thanked them for their membership.  An informal count, comparing the SEMA directory to the IDA Supplier list, yielded 26 IDA members exhibiting!  Prentice and I apologize that we were not able to get to every member, and we appreciate all of you nonetheless.

Well, the next big thing for IDA—and it is the BIGGEST of the year—is Mobile Tech Expo in Orlando, Florida, January 10-12, 2019.  I hope to see you there.  Have a great holiday season and a prosperous New Year!
