2019 IDA President

Holy Cow. It's the end of February. Where does the time go? I hope this new year is working out the way you planned.

I'm going to share a video with everyone. It's a little bit more of my insights on involvement. Please take a few minutes and listen to it, watch it, and certainly do get involved. As always, please reach out to me, connect with me on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, whatever works for you, and let's continue to move this association forward, grow, be strong, and be internationally recognized as the source for detail information and education.

I have been working my plan and I want to share some of the details with you. I feel it’s my responsibility to connect with as many members of our association as I possibly can. I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed with how many people have reached out to me. The feedback has been hugely positive. Most feel so strongly about the IDA and the direction that we're heading, and these are folks from all over the world.

The reality is the association does not exist without you. For a while, I like many of you was a member that wasn't very involved. Once I truly got involved is when I really started to understand the power of the IDA. First I became a member, then I became certified and once I had that inside knowledge, I kept going and got involved with committees. Ultimately joining the board of directors. On the board I became Vice President for Operators and now the President. I feel I have a lot of inside knowledge that I certainly didn't have before. But the reality of the association is that it's really here for us and its members working to help the entire detailing community.

So I feel it's my responsibility to share as much of the quote unquote inside information as I possibly can. My commitment to you is I'm going to share as much detail (pun intended) on all the activity we have going on even before it's officially announced. There's lots of ways to get involved with the IDA and if you know some of the things that we're working on, some of the initiatives, I think it might spark your interest and you certainly can find a place where you can plug in with your particular skillset that will not only help yourself, but certainly helped the other members.

Some of the amazing things we have going on now, one certification, it really is the linchpin of the professionalism of our organization. Everyone that's a member should be certified and we're really working towards making that certification outstanding in the automotive world. As we move forward, we're adding even more certifications (Motorcycle, RV, Marine) and we're going to continue to improve our standards. I really want you to have respect when you see a person that's certified, you really should understand, that they know what they're doing and put a lot of value in that. The next part of that is getting that information out in more of a consumer awareness fashion so they understand it as well.

Some other big initiatives are around membership. We are definitely a strength in numbers association. The more members we have that are actively involved, the better and stronger that we are. There's a great opportunity right now for you to add your employees and get them full access to membership benefits with direct access, not having to go through the primary member of the association. That's huge because there'll be getting all of the same information that you would get directly to them so you don't have to worry about sharing it. You don't have to worry about forwarding an email or information. All you do is sign them up one time for only $25. When you do that, they're truly plugged in with full access to everything we have to offer; access to the community, all the website closed off sections only available to members, all the webinars and all the fantastic archives of information. So I encourage everyone to register their employees as members.

And lastly, this year alone, we already have three meet and greet events happening around the country. We have lots more coming up throughout the rest of the year. That’s huge because it allows us to be more regional and more local to our members. And there's nothing better than getting a group of folks together and being able to show off some skills to be able to do some training, to share information. That networking really helps the operators and suppliers out there to understand that they're not alone. And you have lots of resources around you that you may never realize that you had before. And my experience with the association is that every member is very highly approachable and willing to help another member at any time. And this goes from the big names that you see the in the books and speak on stage to the single guy in his shop, you know, working away on paint correction and paint improvement.

Everyone that I've spoken to and connected with has been so supportive and positive, and that's how we're really going to build and continue to grow on this success of this great association.

As always, please reach out to me, connect with me on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, whatever works for you, and let's continue to move this association forward, grow, be strong, and be internationally recognized as the source for detail information and education.

Respectfully yours,

Jonathan Munsell
