IDA Member Spotlight: Faruk Prnjavorac, CD-SV

Thursday, October 17, 2019   (0 Comments)

Each month we feature a Member Spotlight.  This month we're talking with the President of the IDA Norway Chapter, Faruk Prnjavorac, CD-SV, Owner of INSANITY Detailing.

International Detailing Association (IDA): How did you get into the detailing industry?

Faruk Prnjavorac (FP): When I was a kid, on Sundays I had my washing and hand polishing sessions with my old man.  That escalated into proper washing and waxing of my stanced car, but it really blossomed when I tried to paint the car myself – it was so much more rewarding correcting it afterwards than it was to apply the paint.

IDA: Tell us a bit about your business.

FP: INSANITY Detailing started out as a hobby, but demand and my pursuit for the ultimate finish made it into a registered company in 2016.  It was a one-man, part-time, weekend warrior business for the first three years.  In 2019, I was at a low point and decided to go all in.  Today I have the local Audi dealership with me, along with my regulars.

IDA: In what products or services does your company specialize?

FP: Paint correction and coating are my primary specialties.  I’m working on expanding so that the company has multiple legs to stand on, but I’ll see what the future holds for INSANITY.

IDA: What do you think is the most important factor to being successful in the detailing industry?

FP: Willpower, knowledge, and being fluent in customer service!  I’ve seen people get into the detailing business without these three and it never works out in the end.

IDA: What accomplishments or certifications have you earned that you're most proud of?

FP: I’ve been Gtechnic accredited, Carpro certified, Colourlock certified, Rupes Instructor, and lastly I’m the first and so far only FEYNLAB certified detailer in Norway.  In addition to this, I’ve trained with Chris Larson in sanding, structure removal, correction, and finishing.

IDAWhat is the best advice you ever received?

FP: It came unrelated to detailing, I just live by it in all aspects: “Always surround yourself with people better than you, that way you’ll always have to work harder to be better."

IDAWhat tips do you have for the new detailer?  For the experienced detailer?

FP: I think the best tip I can give is to always keep bettering yourself – improve, increase your knowledge, and you’ll be a more confident detailer.  Also, always deliver the very best end result you can and never make excuses.  These things can apply to all of us out there, including myself.

IDAWhat is your funniest business moment?

FP: I think in retrospect my funniest moment was with a BMW E60.  I was under a very pressed timetable to get the car done for a car show, and I’d been at it for 54 hours straight.  I was working on the last bit by the front fender and fell asleep right then and there on the floor of the car, snuggling up on my polisher.

IDAWhy did you decide to get involved with the IDA?

FP: IDA stands for an ethic and a standard in workmanship in my line of work.  I saw the IDA as a way to improve the business as a whole in Norway, and help others build up their business.

IDAHow has your involvement with the IDA affected your business and your career?

FP: It’s been a ride so far, a lot of work and we’re still feeling everything out.  It has increased my network tenfold internationally.  I keep getting help and seeing new ways to improve with the webinars and news posts.  I’ve also gotten a bit less time to work on customer cars while trying to slowly build the IDA in Norway.
