What is the IDA Motorcycle Certification?
We are so excited to announce the launch of the new specialty IDA Motorcycle Certification! Those who achieve the status of IDA Certified Detailer – Motorcycle Certified (CD, MC) have demonstrated expertise not only as an auto detailer, but also in the
dedicated area of motorcycle detailing. Motorcycle Certified Detailers have exhibited the specific knowledge needed to properly care for various types and styles of motorcycles, and they understand the intricacies that distinguish motorcycle detailing
from other forms of detailing.
To hear more from the IDA member that took the lead on this project, click here to watch "The What, How, and Why of Motorcycle Detailing" webinar recording (member log-in
required), featuring Roman Jimenez, CD-SV.
The Motorcycle Certification consists of 5 exams, 10 questions each, in these subject areas: 1) General Knowledge; 2) Detailing Process; 3) Surfaces; 4) Terminology; and 5) Safety. You need at least an 80% or better to pass each exam.
Motorcycle Certification is being launched at Mobile Tech Expo as an in-person event. Online exams will be available soon.
But what about IDA Marine Certification? Isn't that "CD, MC"?
As the IDA continues to expand our certification program and scope to better benefit detailers that work in specialized areas of the industry, we have determined that our Marine Certification requires a name change. In order to make way for the new Motorcycle
Certification program, we have made the decision to officially change the Marine Certification to Watercraft! This means that any of our Certified Detailers who currently hold the Marine Certification will need to change the
credentials after their name from CD, MC to CD, WC.
We are working quickly to update all website and certification verbiage to reflect the new name change to minimize the amount of disruption for current Marine Certified Detailers. We will be sending out new certificates and IDA member badges to everyone
that currently holds the former Marine Certification, and all new materials will reflect the new Watercraft designation. Moving forward, CD, MC will become the new designation for our Motorcycle Certified Detailers. We apologize to any of our Watercraft
Certified Detailers for any inconvenience this may cause, but hope that you will all join us in recognizing those in our industry that are experts at detailing motorcycles, and help us with providing recognition and a new form of certification to
that part of the industry!
How do I sign up?
Register here. To attend the IDA Certification Event, the applicant MUST be registered to attend Mobile Tech Expo.
Before registering for the Motorcycle Certification, the applicant must have already completed Phase I Certification (or plan on completing at the event), having passed the ten written exams, to fulfill the classification of Certified Detailer.
What resources are available to me if I register for the Motorcycle Certification at MTE?
We recommend watching the webinar recording mentioned above. In addition, Roman Jimenez, CD-SV, will be leading a motorcycle education session on Friday, January 27 at 1 p.m., immediately preceding the exams, which will be administered at 2 p.m. The education
session will only be open to individuals who register for the motorcycle exams.
How much does IDA Certification cost?
