Session Description: The IDA has been around since before 2009 and has a rich history of major developments in support of the automotive detailing industry. Greg, a past IDA President, and Prentice, a member of the first Board of Directors, will share stories of challenges and sometimes humorous situations from moments like the initial discussions of forming a trade organization, to the birth of the certification program, through the establishment of the Founder's Club and the international chapters. Come along for a ride down memory lane and learn more about the immense voluntary efforts that have gone into the success of the IDA.
Speaker Bios: Prentice St. Clair has been providing training and consulting for a wide variety of detailing industry segments since 1999. He is a proud member of the IDA Hall of Fame and the IDA Founder's Club. Prentice's professional mission statement is "to improve the profitability of the automotive reconditioning industry", which is evidenced by his various leadership activities throughout the years.
Always an entrepreneur, Greg Swett started “mobile detailing” in 1974 when he was 14 years old. He would take a bucket with soap and a wash mitt and then
ride his bike to each client’s home so he could wash their cars in the driveway. Some of those first customers taught Greg just how they wanted their car cleaned and at least one “mentor” still brings his vehicles
to him some 40 years later!
Greg bought, cleaned, polished, and sold numerous vehicles while studying at Oakland University in the early 80s. He perceived a need for a meticulous cleaning and detailing service so that car owners could preserve
the value and retain their car’s showroom beauty over several years of ownership. In 1985 Greg opened Classic Appreciation Automobile Detailing Service in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
