This program is a culmination of the cooperative efforts of industry leaders specializing in the detailing industry. The multi-phased program evaluates and develops a detailer’s technical knowledge and proficiency. Successful completion of the first phase (Phase I), consisting of ten written exams, will grant the detailer the title of IDA Certified Detailer (CD). Successful completion of a higher-level second phase (Phase II), consisting of hands-on assessments, will award the detailer a title of IDA Certified Detailer, Skills Validated (CD-SV).

The Watercraft (formerly Marine) Certification is the first specialty certification offered by the International Detailing Association. The Watercraft Certification consists of 5 exams, 10 questions each, in these subject areas: 1) Interior & Vinyl Care; 2) Paint & Fiberglass; 3) Safety & Environmental; 4) Terminology; and 5) Wood Trim, Metal & Brightwork. Those who achieve the status of IDA Certified Detailer – Watercraft Certified (CD, WC) have demonstrated expertise not only as an auto detailer, but also in the dedicated area of marine detailing.

The Motorcycle Certification is the IDA's newest specialty certification. The Motorcycle Certification consists of 5 exams, 10 questions each, in these subject areas: 1) General Knowledge; 2) Detailing Process; 3) Surfaces; 4) Terminology; and 5) Safety. Those who achieve the status of IDA Certified Detailer – Motorcycle Certified (CD, MC) have exhibited the specific knowledge needed to properly care for various types and styles of motorcycles, and they understand the intricacies that distinguish motorcycle detailing from other forms of detailing.

Please Note: To attend the IDA Certification Event, the applicant MUST be registered to attend Mobile Tech Expo. Before registering for the Watercraft Certification, Motorcycle Certification, or Skills Validated event, the applicant must have already completed Phase I Certification (or plan on completing at the event), having passed the ten written exams, to fulfill the classification of Certified Detailer.

Phase II - Skills Validated (SV): 8:00 am – 4:00 pm (Testing is in two-hour timeslots. Select your timeslot during registration.) Please contact us if you need SV testing in Spanish so we can make arrangements in advance.

WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM INCLUDE?

Phase I (CD) is a series of ten exams. Phase II (SV) is a hands-on assessment. Watercraft and Motorcycle Certification consist of five exams each. Read more about what each phase of the exam entails on our Certification webpage.

You may register for an individual certification event, a combination of any two certification events, or a combination of three certification events.

Individual Event (just Phase I [CD], just Phase II [SV], just Watercraft [WC], or just Motorcycle [MC]):
Members - $200
Non-Members - $400

Combination of Two Events (CD & SV, CD & WC, CD & MC, SV & WC, or SV & MC):
Members - $350
Non-Members - $700

Combination of Three Events (CD-SV, WC or CD-SV, MC)
Members - $525
Non-Members - $1,050

NOTE: You may NOT register for both Watercraft & Motorcycle exams, as they will be held at the same time during this event.
