Each month, we shine a spotlight on an IDA Sponsor. This month we spoke with Mr. Kelly Harris, Global Director of Training of IDA Diamond Sponsor Lake Country Manufacturing, Inc.

International Detailing Association (IDA): How long have you been with Lake Country Manufacturing? Were you a detailer prior to becoming a supplier? Kelly Harris (KH): I have been working with Lake Country Manufacturing for the better part of the year on a part-time basis. In June I joined full time as a Global Director of Training. Before becoming a supplier, I worked as a detailer at Kds Keltec. IDA: What made you switch to becoming a supplier? KH: As a detailer, I have been teaching other detailers through my own business for over 10 years. The opportunity to help teach a far larger audience was an opportunity not to be missed. I really look forward to being able to work with detailers all around the world in-person, as well as the content we are producing on our YouTube channels — Lake Country Manufacturing & LC Power Tools. IDA: What type of training does your business offer? KH: We offer online, group, and one-to-one face-to-face, covering all aspects of the detailing processes. Additionally, we are releasing content more and more on our social media channels such as Instagram, Facebook, and Youtube. IDA: What makes your company unique compared to other suppliers? KH: Lake Country Manufacturing has been in the pad manufacturing business for decades. Our tenured past allows us to call on a wide range of knowledge and experience. We can develop products that are first to the market or are continually evolving for the better. Additionally, we operate an in-house paint technology center. This allows us to be a master of paint, which is then translated through to our product testing/development and training courses. All of these assist us on creating the best polishing products to market. IDA: Is there any advice you would give to detailers that may be looking into transitioning to product sales, distribution, or manufacturing? KH: Use the experience you have gained as a detailer. Reach out to brands that are industry leaders. Always remember to be humble, regardless of how experienced and knowledgeable you are. We all started at the bottom at some point. With this in mind, you will help all the various levels of up-and-coming detailers. IDA: What are some of the struggles your company has overcome to get to where it is today? KH: Building a great reputation and brand is the hardest, then building up a customer database. The customer database comes with the reputation and brand, but without customers, you have neither. You can only have customers repeat business and or recommendations once you have blown them away with your work, and that comes from experience. Can you see the vicious circle here? All this means is that the early years are the toughest. We pride ourselves on any struggles we had, as it’s a learning experience to continually grow. IDA: Why does your company believe it is beneficial to support the IDA? KH: We believe in helping and teaching the members to become better and more successful detailers and businessmen across the globe. IDA: As a supplier, what changes would you like to see made in the detailing industry? KH: More education, more social gatherings, and more workshop classes being offered. Detailing can be a lonely job. We would like to spread the message, "you are not alone”. Although I represent Lake Country Manufacturing, I think I speak for our industry when I say don’t be afraid to reach out to manufacturers, we are here to help.
