I use an assortment of strategies to prevent burnout. These strategies help keep my “can do” pace with my “doing”. A few focus on keeping the body healthy. Some are mental strategies to maintain balance. And one or more help keep the spirit nourished. These are necessary for a consistent “can do” attitude. Below is this month's tip for helping to prevent burnout.
Call a Friend:
When we get out of balance, sometimes it helps to reach out to a friend., not just the supportive, cheerleading kind, but a friend whom you’ve given permission to provide brutal honesty and accurate reflection of what you are doing to yourself. For me, this friend provides a mirror to my behavior and an accountability check to bring back balance. Often, it is not a pleasant conversation. I am being confronted with the internal forces that caused me to get out of balance in the first place. I know I must make some changes. I know I must do some things I may not want to do. But having this type of friend say it to me is helpful. It often gets me to assert balance again. I sincerely hope you have a friend like this in your life.
