Prefer to read through these updates instead? No worries, catch up below!
Welcome to this month's edition of the Detail Dialogue! I'll comb through the topics below that you can expect shortly, but let's do a run through of what's been happening in the IDA over the last month.
So, we did the all-chapter leadership meeting. We do these once a quarter, where we get all the chapters together and they basically give us an update on what's been going on within the chapters around the world. It was a bit of a later call this quarter
(I think it was like 10 or 11:00 my time at night to get on board with chapters in different time zones). It was really good to hear those updates, and I'll probably be sharing some more of that within the future.
We then did our members Q&A. So, again, every quarter we have a new members Q&A, which is open to all the membership. If you have questions around your membership or you want to come and ask the leadership team or the management team, whether you have
questions about how to get things on the website. It's basically an hour session where you can come on and ask all of your questions that you've got about the IDA in an open honest forum. There's no such thing as a stupid question. It's a good community;
no one's going to judge you. Just come on and ask all things IDA-related. The next one is coming up in September. If you look in the IDA Facebook portal there is already an event there; go on sign up and then you won't forget about it.
We then did the second IDA town hall and once again we've had some fantastic feedback on that. That's where I gave a six-month update on what's been going on from January to June,
all the progress we've been making within the committees. If you didn't join us for that and you want to catch up on that feel free to go on to the IDA website, it should be on the webinar library;
you can go on there, listen to it while you're working, put your headphones in and listen to the updates there. Again, these are really important for you, the membership. We – Shad, Meghan, and I – put these on for you to come to us and tell us the
issues that are going on and give us your feedback. We open it up for for questions and it's your time to share your vision on the membership. We're always open in our emails and messages, but if you want to share it publicly then those are the places
to definitely do it. The next one of those will be in September; look out for that date and that event coming on the socials and emails very shortly.
During the town hall I did announce – and you may have seen this on the IDA Facebook groups – that the board last year decided to take the management side of the IDA (so ADS who does all our fantastic job of doing all our management of the association)
to basically benchmark that and take it out for request for approval or tender. So, to basically look to make sure we're getting the best value for money for our membership and to make sure that we're providing the services to you as members in the
best way possible for the future. This is a great time to kind of look where we're going to head into the future. Does what we have at the moment meet our current needs? Do we need to alter things? That's not to say we'll alter the the company as
such but you know going out there and seeing what's out there may just bring us some ideas or whatever to alter what we currently have. We are looking for volunteers from the membership to come and review some of the documentation that we've got already
before we go out looking for those bidders. If you want to give your feedback on those and basically help shape the IDA of the future, then please do message me, email me, or contact Barry Theal. The two of us are putting that together, but Barry's
mainly focusing on the membership part so please do contact us for that. It's really important.
Then there's the website. This has been a massive project, but it's getting towards a decision point now where hopefully in the next couple of weeks and by the end of July when we do this next update I can bring you the decision, but we're just at the
moment listing all the applications that have been reviewed and basically looking at picking one based on cost, performance, and the features, so that's where we are at the moment. I would expect within the next month or so we can announce where we're
going.
I just want to touch on a bit about community. You may have seen I did a live video in the IDA group last week where a number of members had reached out just basically not in a great place, and I just want to just make sure that people realize that and
just remember that the IDA is a massive community of like-minded people and it doesn't matter where you are in the world there is always somebody out there that can help you with any issue that you're going through, whether that's you're working
on a car and you come across something or maybe you've just had a bad day of business and you just want to let off some steam, the IDA community is full of detailers, suppliers, just amazing people that can help you through that, so don't be alone.
There are people there. Let's help support one another and let's grow this industry together. I just really want to make sure that people remember that because that's really important.
Just a few things about what's down below in the Detail Dialogue. We have the member spotlight from Chad who's at CME Shine Auto Detailing in Iowa. Go
check that out. He's recently joined the tradeshow and education committee and has shared his information with us regarding his business, what he gets out of the IDA , really awesome, go check that out.
We announced the Portugal Chapter, who are our brand new chapter and they're already getting things underway. They had their board call at the end of June with some some great goals
coming out of that, which I know the team are wanting to share with you in the coming months, so look out for that. That's another chapter that's up and coming so if you're a chapter around the world, watch out because Portugal is coming for you.
There's an education article from Davy, the CEO at Big Money Detailer, looking at improving cash flow through
effective expense management in auto detailing, so if you're unsure about pricing and things like that, go check that article out, it's really good. Even if you've been in business for years, just check it out, you never know, small adjustments can
probably make you just that extra few dollars.
Also, take a look at the events that have been going on. So, we had the Shine Time Expo in Houston, AutoMechanika
Birmingham, which I went to, which was fantastic meeting lots and lots of people. It did look like the Shine Time Expo was a fantastic event for the first event that there was. Unfortunately I couldn't get out there because it was the same week as
AutoMechanika Birmingham but that looked amazing and I'm hoping both of those events are going to happen again and be as successful in the future. Congratulations and thank you to everybody who volunteered at both of those events from an IDA point
of view to spread the word about what we're doing to the industry.
Finally, before we wrap this thing up, I just want to say if you have any feedback on this type of newsletter, whether it's me doing a video, whether you prefer me writing, at the bottom of the newsletter email, there is a link and it's a little survey just asking how we can make this better for you, and the marketing team are wanting this information because we want to bring the information that's best to you – what you want at the right time in the right format. So if
you have any feedback, please go drop it in the survey.
Until next month, I'll catch you soon! Look after yourselves and let's go and earn some money!
